Management of peri‐implant mucositis and peri‐implantitis [PDF]
AbstractPeri‐implant diseases are defined as inflammatory lesions of the surrounding peri‐implant tissues and include peri‐implant mucositis (an inflammatory lesion limited to the surrounding mucosa of an implant) and peri‐implantitis (an inflammatory lesion of the mucosa that affects the supporting bone with resulting loss of osseointegration).

The number of osseointegrated dental implants is increasing. Healthy peri-implant soft and hard tissues are required for the stability and survival of dental implants. In this paper we review factors that lead to peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis, and review treatment.

The risk of developing peri-implantitis seems to be more pronounced in patients with a history of periodontitis. Pretreatment to eliminate periodontal pathogens from the patient's oral cavity before dental implant treatment therefore is important to reduce the risk of peri-implantitis.

Recent years have seen significant research in finding closed-form formulae for the delay of an RC circuit that improves upon the Elmore delay model. However, several of these formulae assume a step excitation, leaving it to the reader to find a suitable extension to ramp inputs.

General anesthesia and anaphylaxis cause profound physiologic changes. When both occur simultaneously, it is often difficult to recognize and identify the medication or product responsible for the latter. Following such an event, the proper assessment, diagnosis, and recommendations are essential to prevent future reactions.

A 40 year old woman, originally from sub-Saharan Africa, was referred to dermatology by her general practitioner. She had noticed the appearance of several itchy papules around her mouth five months ago (fig 1⇓). She was otherwise well and had no relevant medical history. She was taking no drugs. ### 1 What is the diagnosis?

The most judicious way to address peri-implant disease is to take steps to avoid it from the beginning of each implant restoration case. This involves treatment planning with a priority placed on biomechanically overengineering the case, using sound surgical techniques, enhancing keratinized tissue prior to placing the implants when appropriate, and ...
