Computer simulation of periacetabular osteotomy
Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1992A simple static three-dimensional mathematical model of an adult hip in one-legged stance was used to evaluate the mechanical situation after periacetabular osteotomy. We found that the hip joint rotation center shifted as a consequence of the osteotomy.

Periacetabular osteotomy is an extremely effective treatment for the spherical dysplastic hip without significant secondary osteoarthrosis. Yet, the reliability of the procedure in patients with some degree of secondary osteoarthritis, asphericity, or associated deformities remains undefined.

CT evaluation of periacetabular osteotomies
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2000We have previously described a simple and reproducible three-dimensional technique of CT for the measurement of the cover of the femoral head in acetabular dysplasia in adults. We now describe the application of this technique in ten patients with symptomatic dysplasia to assess the degree and direction of dysplasia and to measure the cover obtained ...

The Periacetabular Osteotomy Technique
Techniques in Orthopaedics, 2016Adult development dysplasia of the hip is characterized predominantly by deficient anterior and lateral femoral head coverage. Numerous pelvic and femoral osteotomies have been developed to help restore proper joint biomechanics and delay the onset of osteoarthritis.

Management of Blood Loss in Periacetabular Osteotomy
HIP International, 2008The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of the use of predonation of autologous blood for the periacetabular osteotomy. We carried out a retrospective single surgeon series study looking at patient demographics, intraoperative blood loss, volume of red cells returned (by cell salvage and allogenic/autologous ...

Activity Tolerance After Periacetabular Osteotomy
American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2014Background: Periacetabular osteotomy is a well-described surgical intervention for symptomatic acetabular deformities in skeletally mature patients. Data regarding return to athletic activity or sport after this procedure are still limited. Purpose:

The Bernese Periacetabular Osteotomy
Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2002A dysplastic acetabulum inadequately covering the femoral head is freed from the bony pelvis through several osteotomy cuts close to the joint, properly positioned and fixed with three screws. Symptomatic acetabular dysplasia with closed physes. Osteoarthritis Tonnis stage ≤2. Improved coverage on abduction view. Dislocation. Neoacetabulum.

Unveiling the Learning Curve of Periacetabular Osteotomy
Bone and Joint JournalAimsPeriacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is widely recognized as a demanding surgical procedure for acetabular reorientation. Reports about the learning curve have primarily focused on complication rates during the initial learning phase. Therefore, our aim was to assess the PAO learning curve from an analytical perspective by determining the number of PAOs ...
