Aerobic and anaerobic microbiology of periapical abscess

Oral Microbiology and Immunology, 1991
Aspirates of pus from periapical abscesses in 39 patients were studied for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Bacterial growth was present in 32 specimens. A total of 78 bacterial isolates (55 anaerobic and 23 aerobic and facultative) were recovered, accounting for 2.4 isolates per specimen (1.7 anaerobic and 0.7 aerobic and facultatives).

pH of pus collected from periapical abscesses

International Endodontic Journal, 2009
AbstractAim  To determine the pH of pus collected from periapical abscesses.Methodology  Forty patients (Male = 17/Female = 23) between the ages 17 and 37 years, each with a periapical abscess and with no relevant medical history, were recruited. All the participants had moderate‐to‐severe pain on percussion accompanied by localized or generalized ...

Bacteriology of acute periapical abscess in children

Journal of Endodontics, 1981
Abstract Aspiration of periapical abscess was aseptically performed in 12 children. Patients' median age was nine years (range: 5 to 16 years), and eight were males. All aspirates yielded bacterial growth when cultured for aerobes and anaerobes. Anaerobes were isolated in all patients; in eight patients (67%), the anaerobes were the only organism ...

Periapical Abscesses: Causal Bacteria and Antibiotic Sensitivity

Journal of Chemotherapy, 1997
The purpose of this study was to investigate the aerobic and anaerobic flora of periapical abscesses and evaluate their susceptibility to various antibiotics. In 52 patients, with a diagnosis of periapical abscesses, pus cultures were taken. Forty-two aerobes and 122 anaerobes were revealed, with 2 or more than 2 anaerobic strains isolated in 36 ...

Viridans streptococci associated with periapical dental abscesses

Infection, 1976
Viridans streptococci isolated in apparently pure culture from periapical dental abscess have been examined. It has been found that each abscesses is associated with only one type of a given species of Streptococcus. The distribution of types of Strep.

Diabetes Mellitus and Periapical Abscess: A Cross-sectional Study

Journal of Endodontics, 2020
Dental morbidities associated with diabetes mellitus (DM) include an increased prevalence of periodontal diseases (PDs). However, the occurrence of periapical infections in DM has not been sufficiently documented in the literature. The purpose of this study was to investigate the occurrence of periapical abscesses (PAs) in type 1 DM (T1DM) patients ...

Mesenchymal Stem Cell Marker Expression in Periapical Abscess

Journal of Endodontics, 2019
There is evidence that acute periapical lesions present a greater potential for cyst formation. Recently, it was found that these lesions have cells with characteristics of pluripotent stem cells, which may influence cyst development. However, a more complete phenotype investigation of stem cells in a specific sample of periapical abscesses is required.

Microbiology of Periapical Abscesses and Associated Maxillary Sinusitis

Journal of Periodontology, 1996
Aspirate of pus from 5 periapical abscesses of the upper jaw and their corresponding maxillary sinusitis were studied for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Polymicrobial flora were found in all instances, where the number of isolates varied from 2 to 5. Anaerobes were recovered from all specimens.

Bacteriological study of root canals associated with periapical abscesses

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2003
The aim of this study was to identify microorganisms from root canals with periapical abscesses and to ascertain the susceptibility of Peptostreptococcus prevotii and Fusobacterium necrophorum to antimicrobials. Study design Thirty root canals were microbiologically sampled by using sterile paper points.

Periapical abscesses of cut canine teeth in cynomolgus macaques

Laboratory Animals, 1986
Periapical abscesses of canine teeth in a group of 47 male cynomolgus macaques are found to be associated with a procedure, involving cutting the canine teeth, used to make non-human primates less hazardous. Examination of 150 canine teeth in dry specimens revealed 30 cut teeth with no exposure of the pulpal chamber and 107 cut teeth where the dental ...
