The tuberculous dental periapical granuloma

American Journal of Orthodontics and Oral Surgery, 1943
I N THE early part of 1936, an investigation was begun at Sea View Hospital, in New York City, to study the periapical granuloma in patients afflicted with tuberculosis. It was felt that some of these blind abscesses might be specific tuberculous lesions.

Histological findings of human leprosy periapical granulomas

Journal of Endodontics, 1996
Histological analysis of human leprosy periapical granulomas was conducted to study the histological responses to Mycobacterium leprae. Many Langhans-type giant cells and epithelioid cell tubercles were observed, although M. leprae were not detected in leprosy periapical granulomas.

Immunoglobulin producing cells in human periapical granulomas

British Journal of Oral Surgery, 1983
Ten cases of periapical granuloma were stained for igG, IgA, IgM, IgD and IgE by the unlabelled antibody peroxidase-antiperoxidase complex method to investigate the class distribution of plasma cells within the lesions. The results indicated that IgG containing plasma cells predominated in all lesions and that IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE and IgD cells ...

Touton-like giant cells in periapical granulomas

Journal of Endodontics, 1989
Two types of multinucleated giant cells were observed in periapical granulomas--the foreign body type and the Touton type. In the Touton type, the nuclei were near the center of the cell, surrounded by foamy cytoplasm. Both types of giant cells reacted positively to lysozyme, alpha 1-antitrypsin and alpha 1-antichymotrypsin, indicating their ...

Radiological Interpretation of the Periapical Cysts and Granulomas

Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, 1982
The radiographs of 88 histologically verified periapical lesions were re-evaluated to assess the validity of the diagnostic criteria applied to differentiate cysts and granulomas. In addition, the localization of the lesions was registered. Of the total series, 60 lesions proved to be cysts, and 28 were granulomas.

Heparanase expression in periapical granulomas and radicular cysts

Odontology, 2011
Heparanase is an endo-β-D-glucuronidase enzyme which degrades heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan side chains of proteoglycans in the extracellular matrix and in basement membranes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of heparanase in periapical granulomas (PGs) and radicular cysts (RCs).

Expression of Heat Shock Proteins in Periapical Granulomas

Journal of Endodontics, 2014
Cells from virtually all organisms respond to a variety of stresses by the rapid synthesis of a highly conserved set of polypeptides termed heat shock proteins (HSPs). HSPs protect cells under adverse conditions such as infection, inflammation, and disease.

Examination on Candida spp. in refractory periapical granulomas

International Endodontic Journal, 2003
AbstractAim  To examine the occurrence of Candida spp. in refractory periapical granulomas.Methodology  One hundred and three surgically removed periapical granulomas were subjected to molecular analysis for the occurrence of Candida albicans. DNA was extracted from the samples using a modified phenol/chloroform/isoamyl alcohol method and was subjected

Radiographic Interpretation between Periapical Cysts and Periapical Granuloma-A Diagnostic Tool

Research Journal of Pharmacy and Technology, 2017
Periapical radiolucencies are the commonest radiographic findings for dental practioner's. The commonest cause of periapical cysts and periapical granulomas are well known. This article is a review of studies published on the above mentioned topic. Studies have been reported on radiographic lesion sizes of periapical lesions.
