Periodontal repair of periapical lesions: the borderland between pulpal and periodontal disease

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1987
Abstract A series of cases demonstrating the destruction of periapical periodontal structures, without pulpal involvement has been presented. Treatment using both surgery and antibiotics resulted in extensive healing without any concommitant endodontic therapy. The results suggest that lesions affecting the apical periodontium are either periodontal or

CARIES, PERIODONTAL DISEASE, AND PERIAPICAL CHANGES

Dental Clinics of North America, 1994
Conventional radiography is the standard for diagnosis of dental disease, although it lacks the sensitivity to demonstrate the earliest changes of diagnostic significance. Imaging techniques such as direct digital radiography and subtraction help to better demonstrate subtle changes in diagnostic information.

Relationship between periapical and periodontal status

Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1993
Abstract The purpose of the present investigation was to explore possible relationships between clinical periodontal status in periodontally involved teeth with and without endodontic infection. The investigation was conducted as a retrospective study on a consecutive referral population.

The association between smoking and periapical periodontitis: a systematic review

Clinical Oral Investigations, 2019
The purpose of this systematic review was to examine if, in adult patients, the absence or presence of smoking influenced the prevalence of periapical periodontitis (PP).Databases were searched, and original research manuscripts up to June 2019 were identified by two reviewers. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used for risk of bias.

Participation of Bacterial Biofilms in Refractory and Chronic Periapical Periodontitis

Journal of Endodontics, 2002
The aim of this study was to examine morphologically the participation of extraradicular biofilm in refractory periapical periodontitis. Six teeth and five extruded root filling gutta-percha points associated with refractory periapical periodontitis were investigated by scanning electron microscope.

MESENCHYMAL STEM CELL MARKERS IN PERIODONTAL TISSUES AND PERIAPICAL LESIONS

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, 2020
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are characterized by the potential to differentiate into multiple cell lineages, high proliferation rates, and self-renewal capacity, in addition to the ability to maintain their undifferentiated state. These cells have been identified in physiological oral tissues such as pulp tissue, dental follicle, apical papilla and ...

The Interface of Endodontics and Periodontics: Managing Periapical and Periodontal Lesions

JOURNAL OF HEALTHCARE SCIENCES
Combined endodontic-periodontal lesions present a complex interplay between pulpal and periodontal diseases, requiring a multidisciplinary approach for effective management. These lesions often arise due to anatomical pathways, such as accessory canals and dentinal tubules, which facilitate microbial spread between the two tissues.
