Development of pericardial fat count images using a combination of three different deep-learning models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Rationale and Objectives: Pericardial fat (PF), the thoracic visceral fat surrounding the heart, promotes the development of coronary artery disease by inducing inflammation of the coronary arteries. For evaluating PF, this study aimed to generate pericardial fat count images (PFCIs) from chest radiographs (CXRs) using a dedicated deep-learning model.

Can the frequency-dependent specific heat be measured by thermal effusion methods? [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conf. Proc. 982, 139 (2008)., 2007
It has recently been shown that plane-plate heat effusion methods devised for wide-frequency specific-heat spectroscopy do not give the isobaric specific heat, but rather the so-called longitudinal specific heat. Here it is shown that heat effusion in a spherical symmetric geometry also involves the longitudinal specific heat.

Nonlinear transport effects in mass separation by effusion [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment, P03024, 2011, 2011
Generalizations of Onsager reciprocity relations are established for the nonlinear response coefficients of ballistic transport in the effusion of gaseous mixtures. These generalizations, which have been established on the basis of the fluctuation theorem for the currents, are here considered for mass separation by effusion.

Pericardial effusion in a patient with hyperthyroidism: A case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Pericarditis and pericardial effusion are commonly associated with hypothyroidism. It is an uncommon association with hyperthyroidism. We present a case of pericarditis/pericardial effusion in a 28-year-old Nigerian lady with hyperthyroidism.

Stochastic Efficiency for Effusion as a Thermal Engine [PDF]

open access: yesEPL 109 (2015) 20004, 2014
The stochastic efficiency of effusion as a thermal engine is investigated within the framework of stochastic thermodynamics. Explicit results are obtained for the probability distribution of the efficiency both at finite times and in the asymptotic regime of large deviations.

Cardiac Tamponade Secondary to Metastasis from Adenocarcinoma of the Parotid Gland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
BACKGROUND: Metastatic involvement of pericardium producing cardiac tamponade is rare. When occurs it is mainly from the lung, breast and the neoplasms of the lymphoreticular system.

Fluctuation theorem for the effusion of an ideal gas [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 74, 021117 (2006), 2006
The probability distribution of the entropy production for the effusion of an ideal gas between two compartments is calculated explicitly. The fluctuation theorem is verified. The analytic results are in good agreement with numerical data from hard disk molecular dynamics simulations.

Pericardial effusion after congenital heart surgeryCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open, 2022
Objective: Pericardial effusion after cardiac surgery remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. We describe the risk factors of pericardial effusion after congenital heart surgery through analyzing data from a nationwide, multi-institutional

Conservative management of nivolumab-induced pericardial effusion: a case report and review of literature

open access: yesExperimental Hematology & Oncology, 2018
BackgroundNivolumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor targeting programmed death-1 protein and has been approved for the treatment of multiple advanced malignancies. Adverse effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors are distinct from conventional cytotoxic

Mechanism of fowl adenovirus serotype 4‐induced heart damage and formation of pericardial effusion

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
Fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV‐4) is the causative agent of hydropericardium syndrome (HPS), which is characterized by the accumulation of a clear, straw‐colored fluid in the pericardial sac, and high mortality rates.
