Melioidotic pericardial effusion
Aim is to present a rare case of purulent pericardial effusion caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. Pericardial sample was inoculated into Bactec Peds Plus/F broth of the Bactec automated system. After the system flagged positive, the broth was subjected to Gram stain, biochemical tests and drug susceptibility.
