Carcinoma Diagnosed by Examination of Pericardial Fluid

New England Journal of Medicine, 1952
THE incidence of metastatic tumors of the heart and pericardium has been reported as 6 to 10 per cent of all malignant neoplasms.1 There are few reports of the ante-mortem diagnosis of this conditi...

Angiosarcoma of the heart: pericardial fluid cytology

Diagnostic Cytopathology, 1990
AbstractThe unique cytomorphologic aspects of a cardiac angiosarcoma in pericardial fluid are presented. Smears and cell block preparations revealed clusters of malignant pleomorphic oval to spindle‐shaped cells concentrically layered about amorphous acellular cores.

Clinical utility of pericardial fluid pH determination

The American Journal of Medicine, 1983
The pH of pericardial fluid has not been well characterized. Therefore, it was analyzed in 13 consecutive patients who had pericardial disease of varying causes and were undergoing pericardiocentesis. Values ranged from 6.82 to 7.59. In seven patients with bloody pericardial effusions, the pH was significantly lower than the simultaneously determined ...

Exosome Isolation from Pericardial Fluids

Extracellular vehicles such as exosomes which lie in the size range of 30-150 nm have gained significant attention due to their ability to contain molecular cargoes. These vesicles are released by various cells and are found to stably carry their molecular cargoes to recipient cells via different biological fluids.

Pericardial fluid: assessment and examination.

Duodecim; laaketieteellinen aikakauskirja, 2018
Pericardial fluid is a common finding on echocardiography. Less than 10 mm of fluid on ultrasound scan is not necessarily associated with any significant illness. Clinical examination, blood count, renal and liver enzymes and thyroid function tests as well as inflammatory marker tests are often adequate for a patient who is in good health.
