Pericardiectomy using an oscillating saw
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2000We describe the use of a microoscillating saw on the heart to remove calcific pericardium. This microoscillating saw proved indispensable to achieve a safe pericardiectomy in a 55-year-old woman with thick, severe idiopathic calcific constrictive pericarditis.

Pericardiectomy for Pericarditis in the Pediatric Population
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2009Pericarditis requiring pericardiectomy is uncommon in the pediatric population. The aim of this study is to characterize our experience with this subset of patients.Between February 1978 and May 2008 pericardiectomy was performed on 27 pediatric patients (25 male).

Ten Years Experience with Pericardiectomy
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 1996A retrospective analysis was made of the records of 62 patients who underwent pericardiectomy over a ten year period (1985 to 1996) in our department. Primarily, 43 patients (69.4%) had tuberculosis, 16 patients (25.8%) were diagnosed as idiopathic or viral infection, 2 patients (3.2%) had a previous cardiac operation and 1 patient (1.6%) had a ...

Pericardiectomy in children <15 years of age
Cardiology in the Young, 2013AbstractBetween January, 2002 and December, 2011, 27 patients (19 boys) underwent pericardiectomy. The mean age was 9.3 ± 4.96 years (range 0.4 to 15 years) and the mean duration of symptoms was 16.9 ± 22.15 months. In all, 25 patients had dyspnoea; eight were in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class IV; six had bacterial pericarditis; and 18 were on

Radical Pericardiectomy for Chronic Constrictive Pericarditis
Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2001A retrospective analysis was undertaken in 79 patients who underwent pericardiectomy for chronic constrictive pericarditis from January 1985 to February 1999. Most operations (77) were carried out with cardiopulmonary bypass, with subtotal pericardiectomy in 75 patients, and concomitant operations in 25.

Thoracoscopic pericardiectomy for effusive pericardial disease
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1993Thoracoscopic techniques were used to perform a pericardiectomy in 35 patients with purely effusive pericardial disease after medical management and pericardiocentesis had failed to be effective. There were no intraoperative complications and postoperative complications were few.

Radical pericardiectomy for chronic constrictive pericarditis
Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2018We studied the impact of radical pericardiectomy on early and long-term patient survival, postoperative New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, and left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with chronic constrictive pericarditis compared to a sub-total pericardiectomy. From 1991 to 2016, 41 patients underwent pericardiectomy for chronic

Indications for pericardiectomy in the absence of constriction
1990The indication for pericardiectomy is unequivocal in moderate or severe chronic constrictive pericarditis. Constrictive pericarditis has been the basic indication for pericardiectomy for more than fifty years. However, constrictive pericarditis is the common end stage of a variety of pericardial diseases and, in many cases, it implies a course of many ...
