Root tip excision‐induced exodermis lignification impacts lateral root emergence in Brachypodium distachyon

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 6, Page 2894-2908, March 2026.
Summary The mechanisms controlling lateral root emergence in monocots, particularly the role of the exodermis, are poorly understood. We investigated how natural variation in the Brachypodium distachyon stress response shapes root system architecture by modulating cell wall dynamics.

Anatomy of pneumatophore of Mauritia vinifera mart

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2000
Pneumatophores of Mauritia vinifera Mart. were collected from six month-old plants maintained submerged in fresh water to induce pneumatophore formation. Twenty day-old pneumatophores had a quite prominent root cap.

Functional characterization of NRT1/PTR FAMILY transporters: looking for a needle in a haystack

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1124-1144, February 2026.
Summary NRT1/PTR FAMILY (NPF) transporters play crucial roles in plant physiology and development due to their involvement in nitrogen nutrition and their ability to transport multiple signaling molecules and metabolites. Whereas most eukaryotic and prokaryotic NPF orthologs are peptide transporters, most flowering plant NPF transport other substrates ...

RNA tomography reveals spatial gene expression maps of Arabidopsis thaliana roots infected with Heterodera schachtii

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 1, Page 588-602, January 2026.
Summary Plant‐parasitic cyst nematodes, such as Heterodera schachtii, cause substantial crop losses world‐wide and induce specialized feeding structures in host roots, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying feeding structure initiation and development remain poorly understood.

Developmental anatomy of Cyperus laxus (non-Nranz) and Fimbristylis dichotoma (Kranz) (Cyperaceae, Poales) and tissue continuity

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2013
The Cyperaceae species are present in different ecosystems and constitute the herbaceous extract. Of the approximately 5,500 species of the family; a third has Kranz anatomy, representing an important characteristic of the taxonomy and phylogeny of the ...

Arabidopsis thaliana exhibits wide within‐species variation in tolerance to boron limitation and root and shoot trait resilience associate with a pleiotropic locus

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 5, Page 2444-2465, December 2025.
Summary To improve plant tolerance to suboptimal availability of the micronutrient boron (B), it is crucial to understand the mechanisms plants have evolved to tolerate B‐limited conditions. We assessed temporal physiological, ionomic and molecular responses to B deficiency across 185 Arabidopsis thaliana accessions grown in soil‐substrate in an ...

Estaquia e miniestaquia de espécies florestais lenhosas do Brasil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A propagação vegetativa por estaquia e miniestaquia é uma alternativa para superação das dificuldades na propagação via sementes e de clonagem de genótipos superiores de espécies florestais nativas, possibilitando assim sua utilização para fins ...

Coordination of cortex modifications in time, space, and under stress

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 4, Page 1677-1685, November 2025.
Summary In roots, cell‐type‐specific differentiation enables specialized responses to environmental stress. The cortex, located between the vasculature and epidermis, is a key site for stress‐responsive modifications. The distinct specializations of the cortex are controlled by developmental, positional and environmental signals.
