Viscosity of peridotite liquid
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2004The Newtonian viscosity of molten peridotite has been determined experimentally at superliquidus and supercooled conditions. The high-temperature determinations were obtained using a concentric cylinder technique employing constant high-speed deformation. The low-temperature determinations have been obtained from the analysis of the glass transition in

Lithos, 2007
This paper presents field, petrographic-structural and geochemical data on spinel and plagioclase peridotites from the southern domain of the Lanzo ophiolitic peridotite massif (Western Alps). Spinel lherzolites, harzburgites and dunites crop out at Mt. Arpone and Mt. Musinè. Field evidence indicates that pristine porphyroclastic spinel lherzolites are

Orogenic, Ophiolitic, and Abyssal Peridotites
2007"Tectonically emplaced" mantle rocks include subcontinental, suboceanic, and subarc mantle rocks that were tectonically exhumed from the upper mantle and occur:(i) as dispersed ultramafic bodies, a few meters to kilometers in size, in suture zones and mountain belts (i.e., the "alpine," or "orogenic" peridotite massifs - De Roever (1957), Thayer (1960),

Peridotites, chromitites and diamonds in ophiolites
Nature Reviews Earth & Environment, 2021Ophiolites, which represent segments of oceanic lithosphere obducted onto the continental crust, provide an important window into processes such as continental rifting, mantle melting, asthenospheric upwelling and cooling of oceanic lithosphere. Traditionally, research has focused on crustal sections of ophiolites.

The partial fusion of peridotite
Bulletin Volcanologique, 1964In a study of the origin of basalt magma, peridotite has been partially fused and the composition of the liquid phases determined.

Weathering crusts on peridotite
Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 2015Chemical weathering of dark-green massive peridotite, including partly serpentinized peridotite, produces a distinct and remarkable brown weathering rind when exposed to the atmosphere long enough. The structure and mineral composition of crusts on rocks from the Ronda peridotite, Spain, have been studied in some detail.

Plasticity of Olivine in Peridotites [PDF]
Prior to about 20 years ago peridotites were almost universally considered to have crystallized from an ultramafic magma to essentially their present microstructure. This mistaken impression persists today in that virtually all textbooks continue to classify these rocks as igneous.

The composition of KLB-1 peridotite [PDF]
Electron microprobe analyses of major- and minor-element oxide components for two glassed samples of natural KLB-1 peridotite are presented. One glass was made with the aid of a phosphate flux, and the second glass was made by laser melting of aerodynamically levitated spheroids resulting in homogeneous silicate glass beads.

Manganese thermometer for mantle peridotites
Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1979The temperature dependence of the Mn-Mg distribution between garnet and clinopyroxene, originally proposed by Carswell, was confirmed by Shimizu and Allegre (1978) using ion microprobe and electron microprobe data. High precision electron microprobe analyses of a larger set of 52 Iherzolites from S. Africa and Malaita, Solomon Islands show considerable

Serpentinites, Peridotites, and Seismology
International Geology Review, 2004Understanding the physical properties of ultramafic rocks is important for evaluating the wide variety of petrologic models for the Earth's upper mantle and lower oceanic crust.
