Surface morphology of fans in the high-Arctic periglacial environment of Svalbard: Controls and processes [PDF]

open access: yesEarth-Science Reviews, 2015
Fan-shaped landforms occur in all climatic regions on Earth. They have been extensively studied in many of these regions, but there are few studies on fans in periglacial, Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Hydropower Potential in the Periglacial Environment of Switzerland under Climate Change

open access: yesSustainability, 2018
Hydropower is the most important domestic source of renewable energy in Switzerland. Many reservoirs are located in the periglacial environment of the Swiss Alps.

Rock control on microweathering of bedrock surfaces in a periglacial environment [PDF]

open access: yesGeomorphology, 2008
Microweathering of ice-smoothed bedrock surfaces was investigated in the Røldal area of Hardanger Plateau (60°), southern Norway. Postglacial rates of weathering were determined from surface lowering using quartz veins as reference surfaces.

Quaternary-Pleistocene Glacial and Periglacial Environments

2022
Ice is a major geomorphological agent. Glacial and periglacial processes have been responsible for shaping large areas of the Earth's surface during the Quaternary - especially during Pleistocene cold stages - and are still important today at high latitudes and in mountain regions from the tropics to the poles.

Periglacial environment in Japan: present and past

GeoJournal, 1980
This review article is intended to introduce periglacial environment present and past in Japan, and to summarize some studies on it. The periglacial climate in Japan is characterized by a wide annual range of air temperature and much snow accumulation in winter.

Subalpine heaths as an indicator of a periglacial environment

Norsk Geografisk Tidsskrift - Norwegian Journal of Geography, 1988
Subalpine heaths in Abisko Valley, northern Sweden, are considered an indicator of a periglacial environment. Geomorphological frost features such as active nonsorted circles, stone pits and frost-heaved stones and boulders are found on subalpine heaths.
