Towards an ‘absolute’ timing of biostratigraphic and environmental phases from the Saalian late glacial to the Weichselian pleniglacial in central Europe—Insights from a lacustrine succession in Lichtenberg, northern Germany

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Climate-Driven Glacier Retreat and Biocrust Colonization Dynamics in the Quelccaya Ice Cap, Peru

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The spatiotemporal dynamics of glacier cover and biocrust surrounding the Quelccaya Ice Cap in the Peruvian Andes from 2020 to 2024 were analyzed. Using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, the adjusted normalized difference snow index (ANDSI) and normalized ...

Glacial ring forms on Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut, Canada [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
Ring forms are a type of landform consisting of a series of ridges and troughs with a circular, sinuous, and anastomosing morphology. This striking landform was initially identified in the Canadian High Arctic on the south coast of Devon Island, Nunavut,

Geomorphology of the topmost part of the Bistra Mountain, Mavrovo Park, North Macedonia

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2021
Identification of the remnant traces of paleo-glaciers provides important proxies to understand the response of the environment to rapid climate changes.

Palaeoenvironmental and climatic changes from the lateglacial of the Saalian to the Late Weichselian in central Poland: a multiproxy study from Józefów

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Józefów site is a case study which provides a detailed record of environmental and climate changes and confirms the main traces of the landscape morphogenesis of the Late Pleistocene established in central‐eastern Europe. This study presents a multiproxy reconstruction of palaeoenvironment under variable climatic conditions from the retreat of the ...

Spatial and temporal biodiversity variations in a high mountain environment: the case of the proglacial margin of the Evettes, Natura 2000 area (Savoie, French Alps)

open access: yesCybergeo, 2007
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the changes in plant cover after the recent glacier retreat, in an alpine environment. The selected study site in Savoie in the French Alps (2502-2509m asl), belonging to the European network

Long‐Term Variability and Spatial Differentiation of the Frost‐Free Period in Iceland

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 8, 30 June 2026.
Warming in Iceland (May–September) is expressed as fewer Tmin < 0°C days in the interior and more Tmin > 0°C days along the coasts. ABSTRACT Climate change in subarctic regions leads to significant transformations in thermal conditions; however, the long‐term variability of the frost‐free season (FFS)—and consequently, the growing period—remains poorly

Quantification of ground surface movements on sorted circles using time‐lapse structure‐from‐motion photogrammetry in a karst cave, Slovenia

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
We present ground surface movements on sorted circles in a karst cave using time‐lapse photogrammetry with accuracies of up to ±2 mm. Data with 3‐hourly resolution revealed average vertical movements of up to 50 mm and horizontal movements of up to 15 mm during individual freeze–thaw cycles.

Taphonomie des ensembles lithiques du Paléolithique moyen en contexte loessique

open access: yesLes Nouvelles de l’Archéologie, 2009
The periglacial climatic environment affected most of the European Palaeolithic settlements. The dynamic processes, especially produced by frost, have altered distinctive morphology and spatial distribution of lithic artefacts. The possible similarity of
