Occupational perilymph fistula
American Journal of Industrial Medicine, 1994AbstractA case of occupational perilymph fistula in an ironworker is described. The patient was lifting and lowering 200 pounds of steel when he developed sudden onset of vertigo. Surgical exploration of the middle ear demonstrated leakage of perilymph fluid from the round window.

The Laryngoscope, 1980
AbstractBetween July 1976 and August 1979, 14 patients underwent surgical repair of a traumatic tympanic membrane perforation. Of these 14 patients, 9 were found to have a profuse perilymph fistula of the round and/or oval window. The perilymph fistula involved the oval window in 2 patients, the round window in 2 patients, and both the oval and round ...

Fifty-one patients suspected of having a perilymph fistula were evaluated. We postulated that many patients with predominantly vestibular complaints had unrecognized perilymph fistulas. An analysis was made of symptoms, physical findings, vestibular and audiometric test results in order to determine appropriate diagnostic criteria for the presence of ...

The Laryngoscope, 1981
AbstractA perilymph fistula is an abnormal communication between the fluids surrounding the membranous labyrinth and the middle ear space. Because of the potential hazards of meningitis, permanent hearing loss, and occasionally incapacitating vestibular symptoms, early recognition and prompt repair of the perilymph leak is important. One hundred thirty ...

Persistent traumatic perilymph fistulas
The Laryngoscope, 1987AbstractThirty‐four ears have been explored to rule out perilymph fistulas resulting from ear trauma. Eight ears (24%) were identified with a fistula, often persisting months (average 7.5 months) after the precipitating injury. Repair of fistulas, even if done relatively late, markedly reduces vestibular symptoms and may improve low and middle ...

Vitamins appear to exert a protective action on the neuro-epithelial structure of the inner ear, both in the anterior and the posterior labyrinth. From the data which are to be found in the literature on the subject, we can note that Vitamin A, Vitamin C and the vitamins of the B group influence the labyrinthine tissues actively.

Freeze fracture replicas of the guinea pig inner ear were studied under the electron microscope to define the blood-perilymph barrier morphologically. This barrier is represented basically by the continuous endothelium of the inner ear capillaries. The endothelial cells contain only a few micropinocytotic vesicles in contrast to those of the stria ...

CSF-Specific Proteins in Perilymph
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1971Using antisera against CSF and absorbed with normal human plasma, two precipitate arcs formed between anti-CSF-well, and CSF-well and perilymph in two cases of acoustic neuroma. This proves without doubt that the perilymph proteins have, at least in part, their origin in the CSF space.

Calcium Homeostasis in Perilymph
ORL, 1974Calcium concentrations in serum, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and perilymph were determined before and after the induction of a hypocalcemic state by a simultaneous injection of thyrocalcitonin and phosphate in the chinchilla. Prior to injection, the perilymph and CSF calcium concentrations were about equal and were approximately 70% of the serum calcium

Perilymph fistula — 45 case analysis
Auris Nasus Larynx, 2001Though perilymph fistula (PLF) is not a rare disease, preoperative diagnosis still remains to be established. Some new diagnostic methods are challenging, but there is still no established diagnostic method except exploratory tympanotomy that verifies the occurrence of leakage.
