ABSTRACT Since the late 1990s, the pesticide industry has undergone a ‘generics revolution’ as the centre of production, and trade has shifted to the global South. China and India have become major producers, capturing Latin American markets from Northern multinationals. As a major pesticide user and a key node in global supply chains, Argentina offers

Privilege Versus Right: Vigilantism Against Israel's Palestinian Citizens
ABSTRACT This article addresses three core questions: What is the social origin of vigilantism? How do vigilantes justify extra‐legal violence and intimidation? What are vigilantism's long‐term effects? The analysis focuses on a period in which Israel's Palestinian‐Arab citizens increased their access to legal rights, social mobility, spatial ...

Chaotic dynamics of a pulse modulated control system for a heating unit
The dynamic modes and bifurcations in a pulse control system of a heating unit, the condition of which is described through differential equations with discontinuous right–hand sides, have been studied.

Chaotic behavior of harvesting Leslie-Gower predator-prey model [PDF]
This article deals with the study of some qualitative properties of a harvesting Leslie-Gower predator-prey model. Particularly, we explore the existence, uniqueness, boundedness of positive equilibrium point and local stability analysis of positive ...

Bifurcation and chaos in a discrete mutualism model with proportional harvesting rate
In this paper, we use the Euler method to introduce a discrete mutualism model with proportional harvesting rate and analyze its dynamics. Using the center manifold theorem, we show that the model is subjected to a period-doubling bifurcation.

Finding Stars: Mapping the Geography of the World's Scientific Elites
Short Abstract Scientific excellence is clustering ever more tightly in a few ‘superstar’ cities. Four—New York, Boston, London and the San Francisco Bay Area—now host 12% of the world's top scientists. In contrast, the Global South remains largely absent, with the notable exception of Beijing's dramatic rise.

Global secondary bifurcation, symmetry breaking and period-doubling
In this paper we provide a criterion for global secondary bifurcation via symmetry breaking. As an application, the occurrence of period-doubling bifurcations for the Lugiato-Lefever equation is proved.

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

Carotid artery dissection linked to intermittent apnoeic swimming: A case–control study
Abstract Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is a rare and potentially devastating cause of cerebral ischaemia, initiated by an intimal tear or rupture of the vasa vasorum, that can lead to an intraluminal thrombus, vascular stenosis, occlusion, or dissecting aneurysm formation.
