Degree, quaternions and periodic solutions

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2021
The paper computes the Brouwer degree of some classes of homogeneous polynomials defined on quaternions and applies the results, together with a continuation theorem of coincidence degree theory, to the existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions of a class of systems of quaternionic valued ordinary differential equations.

A remarkable periodic solution of the three-body problem in the case of equal masses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Using a variational method, we exhibit a surprisingly simple periodic orbit for the newtonian problem of three equal masses in the plane. The orbit has zero angular momentum and a very rich symmetry pattern.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Positive periodic solution for indefinite singular Liénard equation with p-Laplacian

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2019
The efficient conditions guaranteeing the existence of positive T-periodic solution to the p-Laplacian–Liénard equation (ϕp(x′(t)))′+f(x(t))x′(t)+α1(t)g(x(t))=α2(t)xμ(t), $$\bigl(\phi _{p}\bigl(x'(t)\bigr) \bigr)'+f \bigl(x(t)\bigr)x'(t)+\alpha _{1}(t)g ...

Bifurcation of periodic solutions

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1979
Mechanical and electrical phenomena which can be described mathematically by the bifurcation or appearance of periodic solutions of a nonlinear ordinary different equation when some parameter is varied have been well-known for many years. See Minorsky [7].

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Time-Periodic Solution of the Weakly Dissipative Camassa-Holm Equation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Differential Equations, 2011
This paper is concerned with time-periodic solution of the weakly dissipative Camassa-Holm equation with a periodic boundary condition. The existence and uniqueness of a time periodic solution is presented.

Pulse vaccination in the periodic infection rate SIR epidemic model

open access: yes, 2006
A pulse vaccination SIR model with periodic infection rate $\beta (t)$ have been proposed and studied. The basic reproductive number $R_0$ is defined. The dynamical behaviors of the model are analyzed with the help of persistence, bifurcation and global ...

On the coexistence of periodic solutions

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1970
(p(t; A)) wYyldt2 = > 5 = Pk 4Y, where X is a real parameter, and, for every /\, p(t; h) are real continuous periodic functions with period n defined for all t E (---co, 03). The problem of the coexistence of periodic solutions consists of studying such values of parameter h for which two linearly independent and periodic or hay-periodic1 solutions ...

Discontinuous bifurcations of periodic solutions

open access: yesMathematical and Computer Modelling, 2002
This paper discusses different aspects of bifurcations of periodic solutions in discontinuous systems. It is explained how jumps in the fundamental solution matrix leadto jumps of the Floquet multipliers of periodic solutions. A Floquet multiplier of a discontinuous system can jump through the unit circle causing a discontinuousbifurcation.
