An Unusual Complication of Periodontal Debridement: Subcutaneous Emphysema and Pneumomediastinum

open access: diamondTurkiye Klinikleri Journal of Case Reports, 2019
Cervicofacial subcutaneous emphysema (CSE) and pneumomediastinum (PM) are rare complications after dental interventions. In this case report, an unusual case of CSE and PM developed following air-powder polishing is presented because of the rare occurrence in the literature.

Periodontal myiasis treated by open flap debridement: A case report

open access: diamondInternational Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, 2012
Myiasis is an infestation of live vertebrate by dipterous larva, which feeds on living and dead host tissue, host products and byproducts. Here, we report a case of a female aged 35 years old, mentally retarded presented with severe pain, swelling, crawling worms in the upper teeth and lip region. She was a chronic mouth breather with very poor hygiene.

In-Vitro Measurement of Forces During Debridement with a Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Periodontal Scaler [PDF]

open access: greenOral health & preventive dentistry
Purpose: This study investigated the magnitude, direction, and temporal aspects of the force applied during instrumentation with a piezoelectric ultrasonic periodontal scaler, compared this force with recommendations in the literature, and assessed the influence of the profession (dentist or dental hygienist) and calculus hardness.

Effectiveness of Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin with Demineralised Freeze Dried Bone Allograft in Class II Furcation Defects: Protocol for a Randomised Clinical Trial [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2023
Introduction: In cases of substantial furcation involvement, non surgical mechanical debridement results in disease progression. Surgery allows for root debridement, osseous recontouring, odontoblasts, and periodontal regeneration while maintaining ...

Comparison of clinical parameters between the treatment of infrabony defects with and without concentrated growth factors in open flap debridement: In vivo study

open access: yesAdvances in Human Biology, 2023
Introduction: This study aimed to clinically and radiographically compare the regenerative effects of open flap debridement alone and in combination with concentrated growth factor (CGF) in the treatment of periodontal three-walled infrabony defects ...

Calcium sulfate alone or associated with chorion membrane in deep narrow periodontal defect? A clinical and radiographic study

open access: yesBiomedical and Biotechnology Research Journal, 2023
Background: Soft-tissue intervention over bony defects may impede periodontal regeneration, the sole purpose of periodontal therapy. Human chorion membrane (CM) enhances guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and restores lost tissue.
