AbstractBackgroundFollowing human immunodeficiency virus‐1 (HIV‐1) infection and antiretroviral therapy, the development of periodontal disease was shown to be favored. However, the influence of HIV‐1 infection on the periodontal microbiota after non‐surgical periodontal debridement (NSPD) needs a broad comprehension.

Cellular reactions in pulpal and periodontal tissues after periodontal wound debridement
Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, 1990Abstract Periodontal wounds in monkeys were prepared with a bur followed by the application of microbially contaminated cotton pellets. 3 weeks later, the wounds were debrided by scaling followed by etching with citric acid or by treatment with carbonate/peroxidate.

Abstract – Localized periodontal destruction has been reported as a rare complication of intraoral piercings. The purpose of this case report was to illustrate the destructive nature of a lip stud and to describe the successful treatment of this case. The lip stud was removed and supra‐ and subgingival debridement was performed.

Periodontal Healing Following Open Debridement Flap Procedures: II. Histologic Observations
Journal of Periodontology, 1982Four tooth‐containing blocks were obtained from patients being treated for infraosseous lesions of significant depth as part of their periodontal therapy. Treatment consisted of open flap debridement and professional cleansing at least every 4 weeks. Teeth in block were removed for histologic study 4 to 6 months after surgery.

Periodontal Debridement: Still the Treatment of Choice
Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice, 2014Periodontal debridement (PD) remains a gold standard for the treatment of inflammatory periodontitis. The evidence base regarding the causal relationship between oral biofilm and the host inflammatory response to the etiology of periodontal disease has substantially increased over the years.

Periodontal repair after surgical debridement with and without cartilage allografts
Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1984Abstract The effect of a cartilage allograft on healing in intrabony defects treated by open flap curettage was investigated at 130 surgical sites in 4 patients. Thinned mucoperiosteal flaps were elevated and the intrabony defects were debrided. A stem with stainless steel pins was used to measure defect depth at fixed locations adjacent to the root ...

Clinical and microbiological effects of root debridement in periodontal furcation pockets
Journal of Clinical Periodontology, 1988Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate longitudinally over 52 weeks the clinical and microbiology effects of plaque control and root debridement at molar furcation sites. The results were compared with changes at non‐molar sites. 24 non‐molar sites and 31 grade II molar furcation sites with probing depth ≥5.0 mm were monitored in 11 ...
