Tensile behaviour of the periodontal ligament
Journal of Periodontal Research, 1982Transverse sections of human periodontal ligament were subjected to tensile loads. Extension‐time, load‐time, and load‐extension curves were obtained. The average value for the ultimate tensile strength of the ligament was found to be 2.4 N/mm2. Loading of the ligament for either extrusion or intrusion did not appear to change its behaviour.
