On the Importance of Diversity in Re-Sampling for Imbalanced Data and Rare Events in Mortality Risk Models [PDF]
Surgical risk increases significantly when patients present with comorbid conditions. This has resulted in the creation of numerous risk stratification tools with the objective of formulating associated surgical risk to assist both surgeons and patients in decision-making.

The hepatospleno volume ratio and prealbumin levels 3 mo after major hepatectomy for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma are significant predictors of postoperative chronic liver failure (PCLF). The importance of this finding is that it emphasizes the need for targeted postoperative nutritional support and regular screening endoscopy to mitigate the risk of ...

Deep Learning Approach for Predicting 30 Day Readmissions after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery [PDF]
Hospital Readmissions within 30 days after discharge following Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Surgery are substantial contributors to healthcare costs. Many predictive models were developed to identify risk factors for readmissions. However, majority of the existing models use statistical analysis techniques with data available at discharge.

This retrospective study investigated risk factors for surgical site infections (SSIs) in right‐sided colon cancer surgeries using intracorporeal anastomosis (IA). The results demonstrated that preoperative oral antibiotics (OA) significantly reduced SSI rates, with OA identified as an independent protective factor, suggesting its beneficial role in ...

Dose of intra‐operative opioids has no impact on recurrence or survival in primary liver cancer
Kaplan‐meier curves for recurrence‐free and overall survial of high‐dose and low‐dose groups. No significant difference in recurrence‐free survial (A) or overall survial (B) after surgery was noted when comparing high‐dose with low‐dose groups. Abstract Background Intra‐operative use of opioid analgesics might have an impact on cancer recurrence and ...
