Update in the Evaluation and Management of Perioperative Stroke

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2019
This review will review the current knowledge and gaps in the literature on the relationship between surgery and ischemic stroke.Surgery and ischemic stroke are interrelated phenomena as surgery is an independent risk factor for stroke and perioperative stroke increases morbidity and mortality leading to poor outcomes after surgery.

The cause of perioperative stroke after carotid endarterectomy

Journal of Vascular Surgery, 1994
The purpose of this study was to examine the cause of perioperative stroke after carotid endarterectomy. The records of 2365 patients undergoing 3062 carotid endarterectomies from 1965 through 1991 were reviewed. Perioperative Stroke: The Noncardiac Surgery Patient

International Anesthesiology Clinics, 1986
This chapter reviewed the mechanisms and manifestations of transient and irreversible cerebral ischemia and the current experimental approaches to attenuate ischemic neuronal injury. Patients with signs or symptoms of cerebral ischemia are likely to have abnormal cerebrovascular dynamics, with areas of cerebrum at risk, and may be at an increased risk ...

Anaesthetic techniques to prevent perioperative stroke

Current Opinion in Anaesthesiology, 2013
Different techniques and interventions that can be used by an anaesthesiologist to minimize the perioperative stroke risk are summarized. The most important risk factors for perioperative stoke are not modifiable, for example previous stroke or renal failure, but they can be used to identify patients with a high risk for perioperative stroke.

Perioperative ischemic stroke

2013
Periopertaive stroke, although uncommon, can complicate various surgical procedures leading to major consequences including mortality. In this chapter, our focus is in ischemic stroke occurring in the intra-operative and post-operative periods of non-neurological surgeries.
