Coagulation Profile of Dairy Cattle in the Periparturient Period

Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1990
SummaryA coagulation profile including prothrombin time (PT), partial thromboplastin time (PTT), thrombin time (TT) and fibrinogen concentration was determined in 52 clinically healthy German Black Pied cattle during the periparturient period. In these cows a hypercoagulability appeared within the first 48 hours after parturition.

Alterations in bovine lymphocyte function during the periparturient period

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1989
SUMMARY Lymphocytes from 8 Holstein heifers were evaluated during the periparturient period for mitogen-induced lymphocyte blastogenic responses. Phytohemagglutinin P- and concanavalin A-induced lymphocyte blastogenesis increased 2 and 3 weeks before parturition, respectively.

Immunity at the Crossroads of Cellular Metabolism: Navigating T helper Shifts in the Periparturient Period of Dairy Cows 3694

Journal of Immunology
The transition from pregnancy to lactation in dairy cows brings major metabolic and physiological shifts, which lead to an increase in their disease susceptibility and immune dysfunction.

Determination of Potassium Levels in Dairy Cows in the Periparturient Period

Manas Journal of Agriculture Veterinary and Life Sciences, 2022
Detection and prevention of hypokalemia which causes economic losses and metabolic diseases in dairy cows had great importance. For this reason, the first objective of this study is to determine the level of blood potassium in dairy cows during the periparturient period and the second objective is to the determination of the relationship between ...

IgG and IgM levels in dairy cows during the periparturient period

Theriogenology, 2011
In dairy cows, the incidence of infectious diseases during the periparturient period is high. The most common diseases ante partum (a.p.) and post partum (p.p.) are mastitis and puerperal toxicaemia, puerperal septicaemia, and chronic endometritis, respectively.

Fecal shedding of coliform bacteria during the periparturient period in dairy cows

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 2000
Abstract Objective—To determine whether numbers of coliform bacteria in feces of dairy cattle changed during the periparturient period and whether fluctuations were associated with changes in dry-matter intake. Animals—12 healthy Holstein cows. Procedure—Fecal samples were collected on a semiregular basis (ie, 3 to 7 times/

Enhanced production of bovine tumor necrosis factor-α during the periparturient period

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1995
This study examined the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) by mononuclear cells isolated from peripheral blood and supramammary lymph nodes of periparturient and mid to late lactating dairy cows. Monocyte-enriched cell populations were stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and analyzed for TNF-alpha concentrations.

Body temperature changes in sows during the periparturient period.

Laboratory animal science, 1980
Deep body temperatures were monitored with an implanted radiotelemetry device from 2 to 4 days prepartum to approximately 12 days postpartum in sows. The mean prepartum temperature of five normal sows was 38.6 degrees C, with a range of 38.3--38.9 degrees C. An increase in body temperature (1.4 degrees C) was associated with parturition.

Behaviour, illness and management during the periparturient period in dairy cows

Animal Production Science, 2013
The periparturient period, typically defined as the period immediately before and after calving, is a challenging time for dairy cattle that must cope with physiological, metabolic and endocrine changes, as well as a variety of environmental and management-related stressors.

Impact of immunosuppression during the periparturient period in dairy cattle

Livestock, 2016
The majority of sick dairy cows that require treatment by farm staff or veterinary practitioners are seen during early lactation, and are typically labelled as ‘transition cow health problems’. Milk fevers, retained fetal membranes, metritis, displaced abomasum, ketosis and mastitis are all conditions that classically occur at this critical time, and ...
