SUMMARY Hematologic and serum chemical determinations were made on days 30, 60, and 90 of gestation in each of 32 cows. Serum calcium concentration was significantly higher on day 60 of gestation than on days 30 and 90. Phosphorus concentration was significantly higher on days 30 and 60 than on day 90.

Hormone profiles and nest-building behavior during the periparturient period in rabbit does
Animal Reproduction Science, 2002This study was done to elucidate the relationship between the hormones beta-estradiol, progesterone, prolactin and beta-endorphin and nest-building behavior in rabbit does during the periparturient period. Beta-estradiol increased as parturition approached with a significant increase starting 2 days before parturition (day -2).

Physiology of the periparturient period and its relation to severity of clinical mastitis
Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2005Incidence of clinical mastitis is highest at drying off and during the periparturient period. Intramammary Escherichia coli infection in high-yielding cows can show a severe clinical response during the early post-partum period. Severe clinical mastitis is mainly determined by cow factors, in particular the functionality of the circulating ...

Factors contributing to immunosuppression in the dairy cow during the periparturient period.
The Japanese journal of veterinary research, 2015The transition from late gestation to early lactation results in dramatic physiological changes including metabolic changes and immunosuppression in the dairy cow. As a result, cows are at a high risk for disease during this time. Evidence supporting a link between metabolic status and naturally occurring immunosuppression is growing.

Iron Metabolism and Haematological Changes in Sheep During The Periparturient Period
Dicle Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi DergisiThis study sought to evaluate changes in plasma iron (Fe), unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC), and hematocrit (Hct) levels in pregnant ewes before and after parturition. Blood samples were collected 10 days before and 10 days after birth, and concentrations of Fe, UIBC, and Hct were evaluated.

Cytokine activity in bovine mammary gland secretions during the periparturient period.
Canadian journal of veterinary research = Revue canadienne de recherche veterinaire, 1991The presence of cytokine activity in periparturient bovine mammary secretions was evaluated. Mammary secretions were modified for use in biological assays for interleukin-2 (IL-2) like and antiviral activity. The level of IL-2 like activity in mammary gland secretions was lower during the last week of gestation when compared to levels detected ...
