Myokymia in the Course of Peripheral Idiopathic Facial Palsy
European Neurology, 20085 cases of myokymia from a total of 31 patients showing peripheral ‘idiopathic’ facial palsy are reported. Myokymia began during the acute phase of palsy and abruptly disappeared during reinnervation. These findings lead us to consider damage of the facial nerve axon along its bony channel as a possible source for myokymia.

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1971An unselected patient material of peripheral facial palsy from a known population group is presented. Out of 168 cases 144 (86%) were diagnosed as ischemic palsies of Bell's type. Bell's palsy strikes most patients in the beginning of middle-age and there is no difference in the frequency between men and women.

Peripheral Facial Palsy in Sub-arctic Norway
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1974The results of a prospective five-year study of peripheral facial palsy in sub-arctic Norway are reported. The idiopathic form accounted for 78.6% of the cases and the incidence for the total population was 18.8/100 000/year. This figure is not significantly higher than those reported from several other, more temperate regions.

[Peripheral facial nerve palsy].

In the majority of the cases, however, no etiological factor can be found. These cases are called idiopathic facial palsy or Bells palsy. Perhaps local anaesthetics could play a role as an etiological factor.
