Measuring Activated Clotting Time during Cardiac Catheterization and PCI: The Effect of the Sampling Site

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 2021
Background/Purpose. We aimed to investigate the influence of the sampling site on the variability of ACT measurement. Activated clotting time (ACT) has been used for decades in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology to assess unfractionated ...

Long‐Term Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy—A 10‐Year Follow Up Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) is a rare but potentially treatable cause of severe autonomic failure. Evidence guiding long‐term immunotherapy, treatment sequencing, and residual autonomic impairment is limited. We evaluated long‐term treatment response, residual autonomic dysfunction, and relapse patterns in patients with

Hydrogel Microtube Drug Carrier for Catheter‐Based Intravascular Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This paper proposes hydrogel microtube carriers composed of barium alginate gel, enabling long‐term vascular retention without interrupting blood flow. Intravascular treatments have long been attracting attention for therapeutic efficacy, yet practical delivery methods remained unestablished.

Complication of Peripheral IV Catheterization in Neonates: A Systematic Review

open access: yes, 2019
Peripheral intravenous catheterization in neonates often results in complications associated with their condition as vulnerable population. Common complications of IV catheterization include infiltration, extravasation, phlebitis, leakage, or even ...

Neutrophil‐Mimetic MRI Enables Ultra‐Early Detection of Vascular Inflammation After Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed neutrophil‐mimetic MRI probes that detect ultra‐early neuroinflammation following ischemic stroke by targeting E‐selectin. Within seconds of their injection, these microparticles mimic initial leukocyte adhesion to the activated cerebral endothelium.

Effectiveness of reinforcement program on adherence toward short peripheral catheter (SPC) care guidelines among registered nurses working in pediatric wards of a tertiary care hospital

open access: yesJournal of Education and Health Promotion, 2022
BACKGROUND: Short peripheral catheterization is the common procedure performed in every hospital with patients' admittance. It becomes challenging when it comes to children and requires more knowledge and skills.

Exploring the use of negative binomial regression modeling for pediatric peripheral intravenous catheterization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Statistics and Informatics, 2014
A large study conducted at two southeastern US hospitals from October 2007 through October 2008 sought to identify predictive variables for successful intravenous catheter (IV) insertion, a crucial procedure that is potentially difficult and time consuming in young children.

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...
