Dispersion in a Bingham plastic fluid: Effects of peripheral layer

Rheologica Acta, 1982
The dispersion of a soluble matter in a plastic fluid flowing through a tube and a channel has been analysed by taking into account the variations of viscosity, diffusivity and yield stress. It has been shown that in the special case of a Bingham fluid, surrounded by a peripheral layer of a Newtonian fluid, the effective dispersion coefficient with ...

Effects of peripheral-layer viscosity on peristaltic transport of a bio-fluid

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1980
The effects of peripheral-layer viscosity on the flow characteristics of a bio-fluid due to peristaltic transport has been investigated. It is shown that, for a given pressure drop, the flow flux increases and the frictional force decreases as the viscosity of the peripheral-layer fluid decreases.

Peristaltic transport of a non-Newtonian fluid with a peripheral layer

International Journal of Engineering Science, 1999
Abstract This paper is devoted to the analytical study of the two-dimensional flow of a power-law fluid with a peripheral layer. The analysis is carried out by using wavelength approximations. The solution has been obtained in the form of a stream function from which the shape of the interface has been determined.

Effects of peripheral layer viscosity on blood flow through the artery with mild stenosis

Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, 1980
The effects of peripheral layer viscosity on physiological characteristics of blood flow through the artery with mild stenosis have been studied. It has been shown that the resistance to flow and the wall shear decrease as the peripheral layer viscosity decreases.

Swimming of spermatozoa in cervix: effects of dynamical interaction and peripheral layer viscosity.

Journal of Biomechanics, 1978
Abstract In this paper, the swimming of spermatozoa in cervix has been studied by considering the interaction of the micelles aligned along the wall. It is shown that this interaction increases the propelling velocity and the work done by the sperm.

Microstructural and peripheral-layer viscosity effects on peristaltic transport of seminal fluid.

Biorheology, 1982
Most of the physiological fluids are transported through peristalsis of the walls which is the inherent neuromuscular property of tube smooth muscle structure.

The influence of a peripheral layer of different viscosity on peristaltic pumping with Newtonian fluids

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1987
The analysis by Shapiro et al. (1969) of a two-dimensional peristaltic pump at small Reynolds number and with long wavelengths is extended to include a Newtonian peripheral layer adjacent to the wall to simulate the effect of a coating in physiological flows. An earlier analysis by Shukla et al. (1980) violates mass conservation because of an incorrect

Retinal nerve fibre layer thinning associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Diabetic Medicine, 2012
Diabet. Med. 29, e106–e111 (2012)AbstractAims  To investigate the relationship between retinal nerve fibre layer thickness and peripheral neuropathy in patients with Type 2 diabetes, particularly in those who are at higher risk of foot ulceration. Methods  Global and sectoral retinal nerve fibre layer thicknesses were measured at 3.45 mm diameter around

Mathematical modelling of the cell-depleted peripheral layer in the steady flow of blood in a tube.

Biorheology, 2010
In an earlier paper, Moyers-Gonzalez et al. [J. Fluid. Mech. 617 (2008), 327-354] used kinetic theory to derive a non-homogeneous haemorheological model and applied this to simulate the properties of steady flow of blood in a tube.

Peristaltic transport in a channel with a porous peripheral layer: model of a flow in gastrointestinal tract.

Journal of Biomechanics, 2005
Peristaltic transport in a two dimensional channel, filled with a porous medium in the peripheral region and a Newtonian fluid in the core region, is studied under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number. The fluid flow is investigated in the waveframe of reference moving with the velocity of the peristaltic wave.
