Peristaltic transport of a non-Newtonian fluid with a peripheral layer
International Journal of Engineering Science, 1999Abstract This paper is devoted to the analytical study of the two-dimensional flow of a power-law fluid with a peripheral layer. The analysis is carried out by using wavelength approximations. The solution has been obtained in the form of a stream function from which the shape of the interface has been determined.

Effects of the peripheral layers on the optical properties of spherical fish lenses
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2008We created a computational optical model of spherical fish lenses that takes into account the effects of the peripheral layers, which differ in cellular composition from the bulk of the lens. A constant refractive index, except for the lens capsule, in the outer about 6% of lens radius made it possible to uniquely infer the refractive index gradient in

Peripheral and diffused layer effects on doping profiles
IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1972The impurity profile of an epitaxial layer has been determined from the capacitance-voltage ( C-V ) characteristics of a diffused p-n junction. The C-V characteristics were corrected for peripheral and diffused layer effects. Peripheral capacitance corrections account for the lateral spread of the space-charge region, whose periphery is assumed to be ...

Retinal nerve fibre layer thinning associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy
Diabetic Medicine, 2012Diabet. Med. 29, e106–e111 (2012)AbstractAims To investigate the relationship between retinal nerve fibre layer thickness and peripheral neuropathy in patients with Type 2 diabetes, particularly in those who are at higher risk of foot ulceration. Methods Global and sectoral retinal nerve fibre layer thicknesses were measured at 3.45 mm diameter around

Evidence for the existence of a subsinus layer of the peripheral cortex in the lymph node of the rat
Cell and Tissue Research, 1985The peripheral cortex of a lymph node consists of folliculo-nodules (follicles with a nodule or germinal center) and an extrafollicular zone. In the course of an analysis of the nodes in rats under various experimental or abnormal conditions, our attention became focused on the particularities of a thin layer of peripheral cortex underlying the ...

Scaling laws of peripheral mixing of passive scalar in a wall-shear layer
Physical Review E, 2011The scaling laws governing the concentration moments of a passive scalar released from a ground-level localized source in a neutrally stratified wall-shear layer are investigated using a theoretical framework recently formulated by Lebedev and Turitsyn [Phys. Rev. E 69, 036301 (2004)].

Swimming of spermatozoa in cervix: Effects of dynamical interaction and peripheral layer viscosity
Journal of Biomechanics, 1978Abstract In this paper, the swimming of spermatozoa in cervix has been studied by considering the interaction of the micelles aligned along the wall. It is shown that this interaction increases the propelling velocity and the work done by the sperm.

Microstructural and peripheral-layer viscosity effects on peristaltic transport of seminal fluid
Biorheology, 1982Most of the physiological fluids are transported through peristalsis of the walls which is the inherent neuromuscular property of tube smooth muscle structure. The present paper deals with the transport of seminal fluid introducing the microstructural effects and peripheral-layer viscosity effects on the flow rate and the drag for the system.

The construction of multi-layered melancholy in peripheral Tel Aviv
Emotion, Space and Society, 2019Abstract Based on the feminist theory of intersectionality, with a specific focus on emotions, this article proposes the concept of “multi-layered melancholy” to describe the feeling of sadness that emerges during personal or collective loss following spatial, ethnic, and gender inequality among a discriminated group of citizens who are located at ...

Effects of peripheral-layer viscosity on peristaltic transport of a bio-fluid
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1980The effects of peripheral-layer viscosity on the flow characteristics of a bio-fluid due to peristaltic transport has been investigated. It is shown that, for a given pressure drop, the flow flux increases and the frictional force decreases as the viscosity of the peripheral-layer fluid decreases.
