Spectropolarimetric diagnostics of thermonuclear supernova explosions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Even at extragalactic distances, the shape of supernova ejecta can be effectively diagnosed by spectropolarimetry. We present here results for 17 Type Ia supernovae that allow a statistical study of the correlation among the geometric structures and other observable parameters of Type Ia supernovae.

Additive-lathe 3D bioprinting of bilayered nerve conduits incorporated with supportive cells

open access: yesBioactive Materials, 2021
Nerve conduits have been identified as one of the most promising treatments for peripheral nerve injuries, yet it remains unsolved how to develop ideal nerve conduits with both appropriate biological and mechanical properties.

Parallel Simulation of Cellular Flow in Microvessels Using a Particle Method

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2012
We developed a numerical method for large-scale simulations of cellular flow in microvessels. We employed a particle method, where all blood components were modeled using a finite number of particles.

ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL RETINAL LAYER THICKNESSES AND DIABETIC PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY USING RETINAL LAYER SEGMENTATION ANALYSIS

open access: yesRetina, 2018
Purpose: To evaluate clinical correlations between the thicknesses of individual retinal layers in the foveal area of diabetic patients and the presence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Methods: This retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study enrolled a total of 120

Mechanistic relationship between the vagal afferent pathway, central nervous system and peripheral organs in appetite regulation

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, 2016
The hypothalamus is a center of food intake and energy metabolism regulation. Information signals from peripheral organs are mediated through the circulation or the vagal afferent pathway and input into the hypothalamus, where signals are integrated to ...

Design of barrier coatings on kink-resistant peripheral nerve conduits

open access: yesJournal of Tissue Engineering, 2016
Here, we report on the design of braided peripheral nerve conduits with barrier coatings. Braiding of extruded polymer fibers generates nerve conduits with excellent mechanical properties, high flexibility, and significant kink-resistance.

Effect of age and sex on retinal layer thickness and volume in normal eyes

open access: yesMedicine, 2016
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of sex and age on the thickness of the retinal layer in normal eyes using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).Fifty healthy subjects between the ages of 20 and 80 had their retinal layers ...

A comparison of antigens bcl-2 and ki-67 expression alongside apoptosis between odontogenic keratocyts and amloblstomas

open access: yesمجله دانشکده دندانپزشکی اصفهان, 2009
Introduction: Odontogenic Keratocyte is an evolutionary odontogenic cyst with an invasive nature and high recurrence rate. In this study, expression of bcl-2, the index for apoptosis inhibition was traced in OKCs via immunohistochemical assay. Expression

A subset of mobilized human hematopoietic stem cells express germ layer lineage genes which can be modulated by culture conditions

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2018
Background Adult bone marrow contains stem cells that replenish the myeloid and lymphoid lineages. A subset of human and mouse CD34+ bone marrow stem cells can be propagated in culture to autonomously express embryonic stem cell genes and embryonic germ ...
