Peripheral nervous system disease in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

2019
Objectives: In a multi-ethnic/racial, prospective SLE inception cohort, to determine the frequency, clinical characteristics, associations and outcomes in different types of peripheral nervous system (PNS) disease. Methods: Patients were evaluated annually for 19 neuropsychiatric (NP) events including seven types of PNS disease.

Early peripheral nervous system manifestations of infantile Krabbe disease

Pediatric Neurology, 2003
Early infantile Krabbe disease is relatively frequent in the Muslim-Arab population in Israel. It can be easily diagnosed when it presents with the classic clinical picture characterized by central nervous system manifestations of spasticity, irritability, motor regression and seizures associated with a positive family history.

Water channel proteins in the peripheral nervous system in health and disease

Molecular Aspects of Medicine, 2012
The expression and function of aquaporins (AQPs) in the peripheral nervous system is a relatively under-investigated subject. Since the original description of AQP1 mRNA expression in the trigeminal ganglion in 2004, there has been significant progress in describing the expression, regulation and function of AQPs in the peripheral nervous system. Three

Intermediate filaments in peripheral nervous system: Their expression, dysfunction and diseases

Revue Neurologique, 2016
Characteristics of the intermediate filament proteins (IFPs) expressed during the development and cell differentiation of peripheral neurons are here reviewed. Neurofilament triplet proteins (NFPs), peripherin, α-internexin, synemin, syncoilin, nestin, vimentin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) are each produced by different genes.

Antibodies to glycolipids in demyelinating diseases of the human peripheral nervous system

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1986
Antibodies to complex glycolipids occur in patients with a variety of diseases of the peripheral nervous system. Many patients with demyelinating neuropathy occurring in association with IgM paraproteinemia have a monoclonal antibody that reacts with a carbohydrate determinant shared between sulfate-3-glucuronyl paragloboside (SGPG), the myelin ...

Peripheral Nervous System Damage in Experimental Chronic Chagas' Disease

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1987
Electromyographic and histopathologic studies were performed in Rockland mice chronically infected with CA-I Trypanosoma cruzi strain. At 4 months post-infection the emg failed to show spontaneous activity, but a diminished interference pattern was detected in half of the infected group, while mean motor unit potential amplitude and duration were ...

Clinicopathological study of the peripheral nervous system in Machado-Joseph disease

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 1995
Three cases of histologically-proven Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) (clinically, types II and III) are described with special reference to the peripheral nervous system. We systematically and quantitatively analyzed the myelinated fiber densities in various nerves of three MJD patients and compared the results with the patients' clinical features and the
