The core-periphery model with three regions [PDF]

open access: yes
We study a 3-region core-periphery model à la Krugman and compare our results with those of the standard 2-region model. The conditions for the stability of the dispersion and concentration configurations are established.

Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Business Cycles, Core and Periphery in Monetary Unions: Comparing Europe and North America [PDF]

open access: yes
We compare Europe with the USA and Canada as regards business cycle synchronization and core-periphery patterns. A long sample (1950-2005) makes it possible to study how these aspects have evolved over time. Results support the economic viability of EMU.

Diabetes‐induced vascular calcification is associated with low pyrophosphate and its oral supplementation prevents calcification in diabetic mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Induction of diabetes in three different mouse strains uniformly resulted in an increase in TNAP activity and a reduction in pyrophosphate (PPi) in the circulation. Inhibition of TNAP restored plasma PPi. Diabetes‐induced calcification in the media layer of the aorta was detected only in the Abcc6−/− strain, which is predisposed to ectopic ...

A Comprehensive Clinical Acumen Enhanced by Point-of-Care Ultrasonography in Managing Acute Life-Threatening Massive Pulmonary Thromboembolism in a Peripheral Setting: A Case Report

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia
Acute massive pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a potentially life-threatening condition requiring urgent management to decrease mortality. However, in the peripheral setting, managing the emergency can be challenging.

Naked cuticle is essential for Drosophila wing development beyond Wingless signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Naked cuticle (Nkd), a Wnt signaling inhibitor, assumes extensive roles in Drosophila wing development. Overexpressing Nkd causes smaller, crumpled wings, while also perturbing multiple signaling pathways and developmental genes. A specific region (R1S) is critical for Nkd's function as a signaling integrator, offering new insights for studying its ...

(WP 2018-04) Economics and Economic Methodology in a Core-Periphery Economic World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper uses a core-periphery distinction to characterize contemporary economics, economic methodology, and also today’s world economy. First, it applies the distinction to the organization of contemporary economics through an examination of the ...

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.
