AbstractThis book deals with the use and development of ‘periphrastic’ constructions in Ancient Greek (VIII bc–VIII ad), focusing on constructions with the verbs ‘to be’ (εἰμί) and ‘to have’ (ἔχω), as in ἦν διδάσκων ‘he was teaching’ or ἔχω θαυμάσας ‘I have wondered’.

DO-Periphrasis in Irish

Periphrastic DO constructions are very common both in English and in the Neo-Brittonic languages and are used for various functional purposes. These form part of a larger linguistic area in western and northern Europe. The literature does not mention comparable constructions for Irish and Scottish Gaelic.
