Unrestricted kinematic alignment on the sagittal plane: Posterior tibial slope and combined flexion do not have boundaries to respect in terms of short‐term clinical outcomes and safety

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Personalized alignment in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is gaining traction as a surgical philosophy. True personalization, however, must encompass not only the coronal plane but also the sagittal and axial planes. This study evaluates influence of the Tibial Slope (PTS) and combined flexion (CF) on outcomes in TKA performed using ...

Prior osteosynthesis—unlike osteotomy—raises revision risk after total knee arthroplasty, predominantly via periprosthetic infection

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Previous knee surgery is discussed as a risk factor for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), yet most reports do not distinguish between osteotomy and osteosynthesis. The German Operationen‐ und Prozedurenschlüssel (OPS)‐based classification was used to compare the impact of these procedures on implant survival, mortality and complications ...

Younger age doubles medium‐term revision risk after total knee arthroplasty: A nationwide multicenter cohort of 5980 knees from the French SCORE I registry

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Although age is a known predictor of outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA), most large‐scale studies rely on registry data that lack clinical detail and combines multiple implant designs. This study aimed to determine whether age has an independent effect on implant survivorship and clinical outcomes when a single TKA design

Periprosthetic joint infection risk is comparable between unicompartmental knee arthroplasty to total knee arthroplasty conversion and primary total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) offers benefits over total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but some studies indicated higher revision rates, often involving conversion to TKA. The infection risk associated with UKA to TKA conversion compared to primary TKA is not definitively established.

Distal posterior humeral plating for periprosthetic humeral fracture in a female patient

open access: yesГений oртопедии, 2018
A clinical case of a 70-year-old female patient with periprosthetic humeral fracture is reported. A new distal posterior humeral plate devised at our institution for nonunions and comminuted fractures of the distal humerus was used in the case.

A Comparative Analysis of Posterior and Lateral Approaches in Hip Hemiarthroplasty of Patients Older than 65 Years Regarding Dislocation and Periprosthetic Fracture Rates

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni, 2022
Aim:The two most commonly used approaches for hip hemiarthroplasty operations are the lateral and posterior approaches (PAs). The PA is claimed to have a higher risk of dislocation.

How to salvage a salvage endoprosthesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Custom-made endoprostheses can be linked to existing well-fixed implants in the treatment of complex periprosthetic femoral fractures. By adopting this salvage approach, secure implants can be retained in favour of patients undergoing more tissue ...

Patients with previous anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction achieve equally good outcomes after total knee arthroplasty: A Swedish registry‐based study of 7755 patients

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Patients who have undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) may later require total knee arthroplasty (TKA) due to osteoarthritis (OA). The impact of previous ACLR on patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) after TKA remains uncertain.

Posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty increases the risk of postoperative periprosthetic fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2022
Background The Insall-Burstein posterior-stabilized knee design was first developed in 1978 by adding a central cam mechanism to the articular surface geometry of the total condylar prosthesis to correct its problems being not “rolling back”. Since then,
