Customized Metal 3D Printed Total Wrist Prosthesis in the Treatment of Severely Destroyed Wrist: Design Rationale and Clinical Applications

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1536-1546, May 2025.
Four patients with severe wrist destruction from various causes were treated with customized 3D‐printed prostheses. In addition to the specific articular surface matching their original radiocarpal joint, two innovative proximal component designs were created to address different bone defects.

A Novel 3D‐Printed Strut‐Type Prosthesis Reconstructs the Hemicortical Defect After Distal Femur Parosteal Osteosarcoma Resection: The Mid‐Term Follow‐Up Outcome

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study developed a novel three‐dimensional (3D)‐printed strut‐type prosthesis for reconstruction of bone defects following hemicortical resection of distal femoral parosteal osteosarcoma. The mid‐term follow‐up results demonstrated that this prosthesis effectively restored limb function and exhibited favorable bone ingrowth and osseointegration ...

Evaluating the Impact of Patellar Resurfacing in Medial Stabilized Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
In medial‐stabilized total knee arthroplasty with a single implant design, patellar resurfacing did not improve pain or patient‐reported outcomes and slightly increased operative time, while non‐resurfaced knees showed marginally better range of motion and function, supporting an individualized, non‐inferior approach to patellar management.

Bilateral periprosthetic distal femoral fractures following total knee arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Periprosthetic supracondylar femur fractures following total knee arthroplasty are infrequent, but challenging to clinicians. In this article, we present a 74-year-old female case of bilateral supracondylar femoral periprosthetic fractures which were ...

Engineered surface strategies to manage dental implant‐related infections

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract When exposed to the oral environment, dental implants, like natural surfaces, become substrates for microbial adhesion and accumulation, often leading to implant‐related infections—one of the main causes of implant failure. These failures impose significant costs on patients, clinicians, and healthcare systems.

Intertrochanteric Fracture After Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty Managed with a Reconstruction Nail

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2013
Periprosthetic fractures after hip resurfacings are rare occurrences that can pose a challenge to orthopaedic surgeons. With hip resurfacings becoming more common, the prevalence of these fractures is likely to increase because these patients are usually

Relationship between vitamin D deficiency and early implant failure and osseointegration

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This systematic review investigated the relationship between pre‐operative vitamin D levels and implant osseointegration and implant‐related outcomes. It also assessed studies involving vitamin D supplementation before implant placement.
