Periprosthetic Knee Infection: Ten Strategies That Work. [PDF]
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the most serious complications following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The demand for TKA is rapidly increasing, resulting in a subsequent increase in infections involving knee prosthesis.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Abnormal stress in the proximal tibia modifies the bone mineral density distribution pattern, and drilling in the sclerotic region during total knee arthroplasty is correlated with enhanced prosthesis stability. ABSTRACT Objective In patients with varus deformity of the knee, the redistribution of the subchondral bone mineral density (BMD) of the tibia

Infection after knee replacement: a qualitative study of impact of periprosthetic knee infection
Background Approximately 340,000 knee replacements are performed each year in the USA and UK. Around 1% of patients who have had knee replacement develop deep infection around the prosthesis: periprosthetic knee infection.

Do Culture-Negative Periprosthetic Joint Infections Have a Worse Outcome Than Culture-Positive Periprosthetic Joint Infections? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis [PDF]
Background. Culture-negative periprosthetic joint infections (CN PJI) have not been well studied, and due to the lack of consensus on PJI, especially with culture-negative infections, there are considerable uncertainties.
