Mediators and regulation of peristalsis
Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, 1999Peristalsis is the main postprandial propulsive activity of the gut. It is mediated by neurons of the enteric nervous system, which form an integrated circuit composed of sensory neurons, modulatory interneurons, and motor neurons to the circular and longitudinal muscle layers.

The Normal Peristalsis of the Colon
Archives of The Roentgen Ray, 1910The following excerpt from Medizinische Wochenschrift 47:23, 1909, was translated by Dr. Ernst Fischer, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Albany Medical Center Hospital; formerly Chairman of the Department of Physiology, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va. The excerpt, approximately one-third the length of the original article,

Fluids Engineering, 2000
Abstract Single-wave peristalsis propagating on the wall of a cylindrical tube is simulated. The unsteady, three-dimensional, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically. The flow is computed with moving boundaries and moving grid.

Prostaglandins /PGs/ and peristalsis
Prostaglandins and Medicine, 1981The effect of some inhibitors of PG-synthesis /Aspirin, Indomethacin and Suprofen/ on the small intestine peristalsis and the PG-like activity in mice was investigated. It was found that the three drugs examined in the applied doses did not affect the small intestine peristalsis but they significantly decreased the PG-like activity.

Activation energy and non-Darcy resistance in magneto peristalsis of Jeffrey material
Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 2019Here mixed convective MHD peristalsis of Jeffrey material in porous space with non-Darcy resistance is discussed. Symmetric flow configuration is chosen. Hall effects are considered for higher magnetic field effects.

Secondary peristalsis contributes to the clearance of retained refluxate from the esophagus. Sildenafil, a phosphodiesterase‐5 inhibitor, inhibits primary esophageal peristalsis, but its effects on secondary peristalsis remain unknown.

Screening of intestinal peristalsis-promoting probiotics based on a zebrafish model.
Food & Function, 2019Based on the difference of the intestinal tract fluorescence intensity of zebrafish, the precise screening of strains with high retention capacity in vivo was completed and probiotics for intestinal peristalsis were quickly screened from strains with ...
