Despite meticulous surgical technique and effective combination chemotherapy, as many as 50% of ovarian cancer patients obtaining an apparent complete response to therapy will be found to have residual disease at second-look laparotomy [1]. A further 15%–20% with pathologically confirmed negative second-look laparotomies will recur.

Malignant cells from primary tumors (gastrointestinal or gynecologic malignancies) invade the peritoneal cavity and eventually seed onto peritoneal surfaces, with the omentum being the most common nest area.
