Pre‐transplant serum Beta Trace Protein indicates risk for post‐transplant major cardiac adverse events

open access: yesNephrology, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 51-59, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Beta Trace Protein (BTP) is a biomarker for residual kidney function which has been linked to cardiovascular and all‐cause mortality in haemodialysis patients. Following renal transplantation, recipients remain at increased risk for cardiovascular events compared with the general population. We aimed to determine the relationship of

Operative and nonoperative management of acute cholecystitis in patients on chronic kidney replacement therapy

open access: yesJournal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Patients with kidney failure receiving chronic kidney replacement therapy (KRT: dialysis or kidney transplantation) have increased risks of postoperative mortality and morbidity. This study assesses the outcomes of acute cholecystitis in patients on chronic KRT who undergo cholecystectomy compared to nonoperative management ...

Utility and Safety of Romiplostim as an Alternative to Platelet Transfusion for Neonates

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thrombocytopenia is a common challenge in the neonatal intensive care unit, traditionally managed with platelet transfusions. However, transfusions are associated with significant risks, including increased mortality and neurodevelopmental impairment.

Localized Microrobotic Delivery of Enzyme‐Responsive Hydrogel‐Immobilized Therapeutics to Suppress Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
In response to enzymatic activity within the tumor microenvironment, remotely actuated microrobots designed for localized delivery of stimuli‐responsive hydrogels engineered to release chemotherapeutics (ChemoBots) are developed. The system leverages magnetic navigation for targeted localization and prolongsed drug release, achieving marked tumor ...

Use of biogenic nanomaterials to improve the peritoneal dialysis technique: A Translational Research Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Intraperitoneal and catheter exit site infections are the most common complications associated with prolonged peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy used for treating the patients with end stage renal failure (ESRF). Recurrent and persistent infections often cause inflammation of the peritoneum, a condition known as infectious peritonitis and to resolve the ...

Understanding the dynamic impact of COVID-19 through competing risk modeling with bivariate varying coefficients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has exerted a profound impact on patients with end-stage renal disease relying on kidney dialysis to sustain their lives. Motivated by a request by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, our analysis of their postdischarge hospital readmissions and deaths in 2020 revealed that the COVID-19 ...

New mathematical model for fluid-glucose-albumin transport in peritoneal dialysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
A mathematical model for fluid transport in peritoneal dialysis is constructed. The model is based on a three-component nonlinear system of two-dimensional partial differential equations for fluid, glucose and albumin transport with the relevant boundary and initial conditions. Non-constant steady-state solutions of the model are studied.
