Cardiovascular Disease in Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal Dialysis International: Journal of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, 1996
Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality remain high in ESRD patients. Lipid abnormalities in CAPD may be more important than in hemodialysis. Vessel calcification may have a role in atherosclerotic heart disease, but this is only an inference from several clinical observations, and it remains to be defined more clearly as a risk factor. Left ventricular

Granulomatous Peritonitis in Hydatid Disease

Journal of Infection, 2003
We report a rare case of persisting granulomatous inflammation within the peritoneal cavity due to previous leakage from a liver hydatid cyst, with the granulomata bearing hooklets originating from protosolices of Echinococcus granulosus. The patient was treated with a full three-month course of albendazole.

Management of Peritoneal Disease in Colorectal Cancer

Hematology/Oncology Clinics of North America, 2022
Colorectal cancer with peritoneal involvement is traditionally recognized as having a poor prognosis, with treatment initially limited to palliative systemic chemotherapy alone. The introduction of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) in combination with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy drastically altered the course of this disease entity and has ...

Postoperative adhesive peritoneal disease

Surgical Endoscopy, 1994

Peritoneal dialysis and cardiovascular disease.

Minerva urologica e nefrologica = The Italian journal of urology and nephrology, 2012
Cardiovascular (CV) death is the most frequent cause of dying in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Risk factors include not only those that can be present in the general population, but also those related to the presence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and factors that are specific for PD modality.

Diverticular Disease of the Colon: A Risk Factor for Peritonitis in Continuous Peritoneal Dialysis

Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, 1990
To study the possible influence of colonic diverticula on the risk of peritonitis of enteral (intestinal) origin in patients undergoing continuous peritoneal dialysis, a barium enema was carried out as a pretreatment investigation in 129 consecutive patients starting CAPD over a 9-year period. In this prospective study comprising 3103 patient months, a

Peritoneal Washings Are Not Predictive of Occult Peritoneal Disease in Patients with Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma

Journal of the American College of Surgeons, 2001
Evaluation of peritoneal cytology provides valuable staging information in patients with gastric and pancreatic adenocarcinoma, but its usefulness in patients with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of peritoneal cytology in patients with potentially resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma.
