Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Archives of Surgery, 1988
Peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare neoplasm often related to previous asbestos exposure. In 14 cases the diagnosis before surgery was virtually impossible, as patients presented with vague abdominal complaints and nonspecific physical examination findings. Laboratory testing (including computed tomography) was of no added diagnostic help.

This paper summarizes the author's thoughts about the use of cytoreductive surgery combined with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy (CS-IPHC) for treatment of peritoneal malignant mesothelioma. Treatment of Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Archives of Surgery, 1989
To the Editor .—The discussion of management of peritoneal mesothelioma by Plaus 1 is good but incomplete. The behavior of these neoplasms is highly variable in the degree of aggressiveness and the physician risks adding to morbidity by overtreating. The use of a peritoneovenous shunt is not without risk, and with it or without it other approaches may ...
