Chemoselective derivatization of alkaloids in periwinkle

Chemical Communications, 2007
The terpene indole alkaloid biosynthetic pathway can utilize a secologanin substrate analog containing a handle for functionalization, and the resulting non-natural alkaloids can be chemoselectively derivatized in crude extracts of plant tissue.

PERIWINKLE ALKALOIDS AND THE PLATELET-COUNT

The Lancet, 1969
Abstract Thrombocytosis may occur in patients treated with the cytotoxic drugs, vincristine and vinblastine. Two patients are described in whom such a response to treatment could not be related to any therapeutic effect of the drugs on their neoplastic disease.

Agrobacterium-Mediated in Planta Transformation in Periwinkle

2022
Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus, family Apocynaceae) is a reservoir of more than 130 monoterpene indole alkaloids (MIAs) including the famous anti-neoplastic dimeric MIAs vinblastine and vincristine, and anti-hypertensive monomeric MIAs ajmalicine and serpentine.

Spiroplasma citri-induced lethal wiltinc of periwinkles is prevented by prior or simultaneous infection of the periwinkle by an MLO

Annales de l'Institut Pasteur / Microbiologie, 1984
S. citri can be cultured from periwinkles naturally infected in the field and showing typical mycoplasma-like organism (MLO) symptoms such as flower virescence. Such plants are undoubtedly infected with both S. citri and with one MLO, the latter being responsible for the symptoms.

Transformation in Catharanthus Species (Madagascar Periwinkle)

1993
Secondary metabolite production by plant cell cultures has been the subject of many investigations. Indole alkaloids such as ajmalicine, an antihypertensive drug, or vinblastine and vincristin, two antitumor compounds produced by Catharanthus roseus, are very important in the pharmaceutical industry.
