Bioerosional scars made by limpets (Patella) on a cliff in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, indicate a Mid‐Holocene RSL of +7.8±0.55 m relative to local mid‐tide level today. This is higher than previous empirical data for the region and extrapolated levels from raised shorelines in Scotland but consistent with some recent GIA models.

The South African Choromytilus meridionalis is a marine aquaculture bivalve species underutilised for human consumption as a ready‐to‐eat (RTE) product. Hot smoking is a widely used method for preparing RTE seafood products. This study investigated the physicochemical (pH, water activity, and colour), lipid oxidation, and microbiological ...

A Morphological Characterization of High Yield Chitin from Periwinkle Shells
Research on obtaining chitin from periwinkle shell is scarce due to the very low yield of chitin from this kind of shell. Thisstudy reports a method of processing periwinkle shells to obtain high yield, bio-medically suitable chitin. The experimentwas designed using IM and 2M concentrations of HCl for demineralization and a 1M NaOH concentration for ...

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract A long‐standing theory in biogeography is that stronger biotic interactions at lower latitudes select for better‐defended phenotypes. However, greater environmental variability at temperate latitudes may also shape defensive strategies by increasing temporal or local ...

Abstract Measuring cardiac frequency provides a non‐invasive approach to quantifying sublethal stress responses of invertebrates to environmental stressors, such as heat stress. Existing cardiac monitoring methods rely on limited‐performance hardware, and data processing is still largely manual or semi‐automated.

Scheffe's Polynomial Optimisation of Laterite Concrete Incorporating Periwinkle Shells and Coir
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Springer via the DOI in this record ; Recent emphases on minimising the carbon footprint of concrete have focused on the use of non-conventional materials for the production of low-cost concrete.
