Fatty acids and glycerides are object recognition and carrying cues for foraging Camponotus modoc carpenter ants

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, Page 29-39, March 2026.
Colour‐coded perlites were treated with specific fatty acids or mono‐, di‐ or triglycerides as perlite pickup cues for laboratory and field colonies of western carpenter ants. In laboratory and field experiments, ant colonies were offered multiple choices of these colour‐coded lipid‐treated perlites for pickup and transport to the nest.

Divergent Biochemical Strategies and Organ‐Specific Metabolic Adjustments in Spinach Mediated by Exogenous Amino Acids Under Salt Stress

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the physiological and biochemical responses of spinach to salt stress through amino acid supplementation is crucial for improving crop resilience under increasing soil salinity conditions. Salt stress represents one of the most severe abiotic constraints limiting vegetable crop productivity worldwide, yet comprehensive studies ...

Insights into glandular trichome biology from analysis of organ‐specific gene expression programmes in cannabis, hop and tomato

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 125, Issue 6, March 2026.
Significance Statement This study of three glandular trichome‐producing species (cannabis, hop and tomato) defines tissue‐specific transcriptomic atlases for five organs (trichome, flower, leaf, stem and root), providing co‐expression and gene regulatory networks and identifying candidate regulators of specialised metabolism in trichomes of each ...

Does Climate Change Alter Weed Management Recommendations? Evaluating the Impact of Elevated CO2 on Plant Growth and the Critical Period of Weed Control

open access: yesWeed Research, Volume 66, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change challenges crop production, driving rising temperatures and extreme weather events. Additionally, increased atmospheric CO2 alters competitive dynamics between crops and weeds. While previous research has examined individual plant responses to elevated CO2, its direct impact on weed management recommendations remains ...
