Permanent resident [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Education Online, 2016
The training of physicians in the past century was based primarily on responsibility and the chain-of-command. Those with the bulk of that responsibility in the fields of pediatrics and internal medicine were residents. Residents trained the medical students and supervised them carefully in caring for patients.

REE Recovery from End-of-Life NdFeB Permanent Magnet Scrap: A Critical Review

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Metallurgy, 2017
NdFeB permanent magnets have different life cycles, depending on the applications: from as short as 2–3 years in consumer electronics to 20–30 years in wind turbines.

Hydrometallurgical Recovery of Rare Earth Elements from NdFeB Permanent Magnet Scrap: A Review

open access: yesMetals, 2020
NdFeB permanent magnet scrap is regarded as an important secondary resource which contains rare earth elements (REEs) such as Nd, Pr and Dy. Recovering these valuable REEs from the NdFeB permanent magnet scrap not only increases economic potential, but ...

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Permanent and determinant

open access: yes27th Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (sfcs 1986), 1986
This paper gives the bound \(m>\sqrt{2}n-6\sqrt{n}\) as the smallest possible dimension m for which the n-dimensional permanent function might be expressible as an m-dimensional determinant function. The proof uses algebraic geometry studying the singular loci of the permanent and determinant functions.

Evaluation of Permanents [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, 1979
The permanent of an m x n matrix A = (aij),m≤n, is defined bywhere the summation is over all one-to-one functions σ from {1, … ,m} to { 1, …,n}. In other words, the permanent of A is the sum of all thediagonal productsofA, that is, all the products ofmentries ofAno two of which lie in the same row or in the same column.
