Effect of loading frequencies on permanent deformation of unbound granular materials

International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2019
Unbound granular materials (UGMs) show both permanent and resilient deformations under repeated traffic loads. Permanent deformation (PD) is the irreversible part of the deformation, commonly used for rutting prediction.

Effects of Compaction Moisture Content on Permanent Deformation of Soils Subjected to Repeated Triaxial Load Tests

Transportation Research Record, 2019
Water content is one of the key parameters that can cause variations in the elastic and plastic deformation of pavement layers. More specifically, both the compaction moisture and the post-compaction moisture should be carefully controlled. The objective

A New Approach for Prediction of Permanent Deformation

1992
A laboratory investigation was performed in which the influence on resistance to plastic deformation as demonstrated when rounded, smooth, sand-sized aggregate particles were replaced by rough, angular, porous particles while other aggregates and the total gradation remain the unchanged.

Permanent deformation behaviour of pavement base and subbase containing recycle concrete aggregate, coarse and fine crumb rubber

Construction and Building Materials, 2018
Pavement layers must be sufficiently strong to carry all traffic loads and resist the accumulation of permanent deformations such as rutting and avoid premature failures including top-down cracking during their service lives.

Permanent Deformation Behavior of Compacted Loess under Long-Term Traffic Loading

Journal of materials in civil engineering, 2019
The long-term permanent deformation behavior of subgrade soil repeatedly subjected to traffic loading has a significant effect on the settlement of pavement during operation.

Permanent deformation in idealized bituminous composites

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part L: Journal of Materials: Design and Applications, 2001
This paper describes tests undertaken to characterize the deformation behaviour of idealized bituminous mixtures and the development of a model to describe the permanent deformation exhibited by these mixtures in a wheel-tracking test. Steady state uniaxial and triaxial tests are used to characterize the deformation behaviour of the idealized mixtures

Permanent Deformation of a Granular Base Material

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 1999
An approach to the characterization of unbound pavement materials for mechanistic analysis of pavements is presented. To predict permanent deformation, it is necessary to evaluate the residual properties of the materials. A method for evaluation of both the resilient and residual properties from repeated load testing is recommended.

Characterization of Permanent Deformation of Different Asphalt Pavements Using the Advanced Repeated Load Permanent Deformation Test

CICTP 2016, 2016
An advanced repeated load permanent deformation (ARLPD) test that can simulate the lateral confinement and temperature gradient in actual pavements was employed in this study. The test was conducted based on field cores and laboratory-made specimens of several newly constructed hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavements, reclaimed asphalt pavements (RAP), and ...

Application of VESYS3AM in Characterization of Permanent Deformation

International Journal of Pavement Engineering, 2000
The mechanistic system rutting model VESYS3AM was used to predict the rutting performance of three full-scale accelerated pavement test pads. Since the VESYS3AM system rutting model is not formulated to calculate layer rutting, a method was devised to extract the information by manipulating the layer input rutting parameters.

Development and Calibration of Permanent Deformation Models

2016
As part of the first accelerated pavement tests completed in Costa Rica, laboratory permanent deformation tests were performed on asphalt mixture, granular base and soil samples from the test sections. The objective of this study was to calibrate prediction models using measured rutting data collected from instrumented flexible pavements.
