Permanent-magnet a.c. generators
Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1979The development of permanent-magnet generators is reviewed and a novel multistacked form described. This machine is ideally suited to the production of a high airgap field from ceramic magnets, but polymer-bonded rare-earth magnets may also be used to advantage. A damping device can be incorporated to minimise load-angle oscillation.

Based on the theory of permanent-magnet generators piresented in Part I,1 design equations are derived for the short-circuit stabilized generator, and it is shown that the design may be optimized to yield the smallest machine for given specifications. A relationship between short-circuit current and inherent voltage regulation is given.
