Large direct drive generators: the induction machine as an alternative to permanent magnet machines

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Design of direct drive power take off in renewable energy generators tends to focus on force density, naturally leading to the use of relatively expensive permanent magnet machines.

Optimum Permanent Magnets Configuration in Flat-Quasi Linear Permanent Magnet Generators

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE), 2016
<p>Flat-quasi type of linear permanent magnet generators (LPMGs) have been considered to be applied for several applications, such for wave energy conversion and free piston combustion engine. One of the important issues concerning LPMG is the permanent magnets configuration, due to its effects to the generator’s excitation performance.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Comparison of multiple stage braking circuits for wind driven generators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents multiple stage braking circuits for wind turbines with a permanent magnet synchronous generator. The system combines both passive converter circuit coupled to a resistive braking circuit.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Symmetrical Resonance Mechanism of Elimination of Parasitic Torques of the Permanent Magnets Generator when Starting and Idling

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2022
. “Sticking” and vibrations of the stator of permanent magnet generators cause their increased wear, noise; also, their operation efficiency decreases. The article theoretically considers the possibility of eliminating the starting torque and oscillation

DFIG versus PMSG for marine current turbine applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Emerging technologies for marine current turbine are mainly relevant to works that have been carried out on wind turbines and ship propellers. It is then obvious that many electric generator topologies could be used for marine current turbines. As in the

Turn-to-turn fault protection technique for synchronous machines without additional voltage transformers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents a novel protection technique for the detection of inter-turn faults in synchronous machines. It is based on the calculation of voltage in the stator windings from the usual phases and neutral voltage, typically available in ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.
