Permanent pacemaker wire infective endocarditis
Emergency Medicine Journal, 2010A 79-year-old man presented to our Emergency Department with septic shock and congestive heart failure secondary to infective endocarditis of his right ventricular pacing system. He had undergone recent resynchronisation biventricular pacing for dilated cardiomyopathy and moderate rheumatic mitral stenosis.

Newer indications for permanent pacemakers
Comprehensive Therapy, 2000The role of pacemakers in cardiac disease continues to expand, and recent technology has allowed therapy to be individualized. Newer indications for pacemakers now include long QT syndrome, neurocardiogenic syncope, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and drug refractory atrial fibrillation.

Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2003
The aim of this study was to assess if atrial leads whose “J” configuration has straightened significantly on the postprocedural chest X ray should be repositioned. Between January 1996 and December 1997, 445 patients underwent dual chamber pacemaker implantation at the Papworth Hospital. Postprocedural chest X rays were available in 410 of these. The

New Onset of Pacemaker Dependency After Permanent Pacemaker Implantation
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 2004Pacemaker dependency has dangerous consequences under conditions of electromagnetic interference, unrecognized lead dysfunction, and battery depletion, and has been associated with cardiovascular and overall mortality. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence of new onset of pacemaker dependency during long‐term follow‐up after pacing system

Timing Cycles of Permanent Pacemakers
Cardiology Clinics, 1992A clear understanding of the components of the pacemaker timing cycles is crucial to understanding and interpreting paced electrocardiograms. The information given in this article provides basic rules for timing cycles for pacing modes currently in use and pacing modes less frequently used but of importance in understanding current timing cycles ...

Permanent pacemaker implantation technique: part I
Heart, 2009Although device therapy is increasingly a subspecialty in its own right, permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation remains one of the core skills of cardiologists. Most trainees will require at least basic skills in PPM implantation and the aim of this article (in two parts) is to provide a guide to the steps involved, and some of the fundamentals of ...
