Enhancing Circular Economic Activities of e‐Waste Pickers in South Africa: Using Korten's Four Generations Strategies as Framework

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT E‐waste pickers play a valuable role in the circular economy and divert waste from landfills. Despite their contributions to the economy, informal e‐waste pickers work in very adverse conditions. With a view to improving their livelihoods and working conditions and possibly increasing their integration, Korten's four generations framework is ...

Secretome Profiling in Axon Regeneration: Emerging Techniques and Therapeutic Translation

open access: yesSensory Neuroscience, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The secretome refers to the in vivo ensemble of molecular entities that are found in interstitial spaces. It is then the mere secreted products of the cells, as all biomolecules in the interstitial cellular spaces also undergo modifications. The fractionated secretome may hold potential as a cell‐free therapy option due to its role in tissue ...

Extrusion of Heterogeneous Filament‐like Structures: A New Paradigm in Fabricating Soft Mechanical Gradient with Long Span

open access: yesSmall Science, EarlyView.
An extrusion‐based technique to engineer a stiffness gradient interphase material that seamlessly bridges soft‐to‐hard interface without strain localization in multimaterial systems is presented. The gradient is obtained by spatial control of the distribution of reinforcing expandable microspheres in polydimethylsiloxane.

The Biomaterial and Blood Clot Complex: A Crucial Early Environment for Osteo‐Coagulo‐Immunomodulation and the Advancement of Bone Biomaterials

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
Various properties of bone biomaterials can modulate components of the blood clot (including the fibrin network, red blood cells, platelets, and the complement system) in vivo implantation, leading to the formation of a biomaterial–blood clot complex (BBCC) significantly impacting subsequent osteoimmunomodulation.

Science Triggers and Situational Interest in Everyday Family Life

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Interest in science is critical for science learning. The family plays a major role in supporting the development of children's interest in science by eliciting and fostering interest and engagement with science content and practice. This study characterizes triggers for interest in science in everyday family life and measures the duration of ...
