Exploring the Mechanisms of the Soil Moisture‐Air Temperature Hypersensitive Coupling Regime

open access: yesWater Resources Research
High temperature extremes accompanied by drought have led to serious ramifications for environmental and socio‐economic systems. Thus, improving the predictability of heat‐wave events is a high priority.

The Effects of Bio‐Fertilizer Applications on Post‐Harvest Fruit Quality in Soilless‐Grown Tomatoes

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
Microbial fertilization has been shown to have the potential to limit water loss. AG and AO treatments preserved shelf life by keeping the fruit flesh firmer compared to the control. Microbial fertilization preserved the physical structure of tomatoes during cold storage.

Catalysing conservation: Testing behavioural spillover from wildlife‐friendly coffee in a zoo café

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 7, Page 2437-2456, July 2026.
Abstract The biodiversity crisis demands effective strategies to shift human behaviour, rooted in understanding how people relate to nature and how those relationships may be cultivated to motivate conservation action. This study contributes to understanding of how conservation behaviour may catalyse the adoption of other conservation behaviours by ...

Cirsium arvense management with electrical weed control and clopyralid

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6575-6584, July 2026.
Electrical weed control (EWC) treatments reduced Cirsium arvense biomass by ≤95% and suppressed new shoot emergence by 70–95%, achieving control comparable to clopyralid. Sequential or integrated applications enhanced efficacy, demonstrating EWC's potential as a nonchemical tool for perennial weed management in orchard systems.

Survival of a potential bacterial biocontrol agent in the soil and its impact on microbial communities

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6984-6998, July 2026.
In soil microcosms, the candidate Bacillus persisted ≥6 months and caused modest community shifts whose transience and magnitude were soil dependent. Abstract BACKGROUND Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a major crop pathogen commonly managed using fungicides.

Soil Moisture Controls on Permafrost Carbon Cycle Under Greenhouse Warming and Zero Emission Pathways

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Permafrost regions store vast amounts of soil carbon, and thaw under global warming enhances microbial decomposition and CO2 release, strengthening the permafrost carbon feedback. While this feedback has been extensively studied for continued warming, the processes controlling its magnitude and persistence remain uncertain. Using the Community

Pedotransfer Functions for estimating field capacity and permanent wilting point in the River Una Hydrographic Basin - Ibiúna (SP)

open access: yes
A retenção e disponibilidade de água no solo são propriedades importantes para a produção agrícola, visto que o manejo adequado dos solos pode evitar seu empobrecimento e aumentar sua produtividade.

‘What Do You Mean by That? What Should I Do? What Should We Practice at Home?’ Parental Perspectives on Multilingual Communication and Collaboration in Speech and Language Therapy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Language &Communication Disorders, Volume 61, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Collaboration with parents is essential in speech and language therapy to achieve therapeutic goals for children. However, linguistic and cultural differences can complicate communication and collaboration with multilingual parents.

The Relationship of Soil Types to the Dynamics of Groundwater Availability for Rice (Oryza sativa L.) and Corn (Zea mays L.) Plants in Pohuwato Regency

open access: yes
The model for estimating groundwater availability for plants often overlooks the type of soil and the capacity of plants to absorb water from it. This study employs laboratory soil tests and statistical analyses to examine the relationship between ...

Water content at permanent wilting point: An approach for rewetting air-dried soils, considering the effect of hysteresis

open access: yes
Bachelor Thesis of Matthias Lang, conducted at the University of Basel in collaboration with Agroscope. Summary Estimating plant-available water in soil at permanent wilting point is challenging. To advance the current state of knowledge, measurements traditionally taken with the pressure plate apparatus can be compared to new data obtained using ...
