Alpine ungulates adjust diel activity to the natural return of wolves amid anthropogenic pressures

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
As wolves recolonise their historical range across Europe, ungulates face predation once more – but in landscapes profoundly altered by human activity. This shift raises crucial questions about their capacity to express adaptive antipredator behaviours.

Interpretation of in vitro concentration‐response data for risk assessment and regulatory decision‐making: Report from the 2022 IWGT quantitative analysis expert working group meeting

open access: yesEnvironmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, EarlyView.
Abstract Quantitative risk assessments of chemicals are routinely performed using in vivo data from rodents; however, there is growing recognition that non‐animal approaches can be human‐relevant alternatives. There is an urgent need to build confidence in non‐animal alternatives given the international support to reduce the use of animals in toxicity ...

Determinantal and Permanental Representation of Generalized Fibonacci Polynomials

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, we give some determinantal and permanental representations of Generalized Fibonacci Polynomials by using various Hessenberg matrices. These results are general form of determinantal and permanental representations of k sequences of the generalized order-k Fibonacci and Pell numbers.

Research on Collaborative Estimation of SOC and SOH for Lithium‐Ion Batteries Based on BS‐SRCKF‐DEKF

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel method for jointly estimating the state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) in lithium‐ion battery systems. A second‐order hysteresis RC model and the BS‐SRCKF‐DEKF algorithm are used to improve estimation accuracy. Simulation and experimental results verify the method′s robustness and superior performance.

The characterizing properties of (signless) Laplacian permanental polynomials of bicyclic graphs

open access: yes, 2022
Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices, and let $L(G)$ and $Q(G)$ be the Laplacian matrix and signless Laplacian matrix of $G$, respectively. The polynomial $π(L(G);x)={\rm per}(xI-L(G))$ (resp. $π(Q(G);x)={\rm per}(xI-Q(G))$) is called {\em Laplacian permanental polynomial} (resp. {\em signless Laplacian permanental polynomial}) of $G$.

Application of High‐Order Direct Flux Reconstruction and Stiffness‐Resilient Time Integration to Simulations of Idealized Atmospheric Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
The proposed work implements a direct flux reconstruction method for spatial discretization and a stiffness‐resilient exponential time integration method for temporal discretization on the cube‐sphere grid. A space‐time tensor formalism is employed to provide a general representation in any curvilinear coordinate system. This combination enables highly

Yield, Evapotranspiration, Production Functions, Crop Coefficients, Water Productivity and Soil‐Water Extraction of Three Watermelon Varieties

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While watermelon is an important commodity in the United States and worldwide, some of the fundamental watermelon productivity indices (crop evapotranspiration [ETc], transpiration [Tr], evaporation [E], ET‐yield production functions [ETYPF], basal crop coefficients [Kcb], crop water productivity [CWP], soil‐water extraction [SWE]) have not ...

A Peridynamic Framework for Modeling Progressive Failure in Porous Sandstone Indentation

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A state‐based peridynamic model is proposed to simulate the failure mechanisms in porous rocks, using Bentheim sandstone as a specific example. Experimental observations reveal a transition from brittle to ductile failure under increasing triaxial compression. This behavior is attributed to pore compaction. The peridynamic model is enhanced to
